Just saying I'm not happy with USB passthrough I plugged it to a Powered USB hub and when I clicked the manual button one monitor went dark the alert on the screen was something to the effect insuffient power. had to unplug the USB hub and restart my computer. I went ahead and just bought a 650 x2 wish I had done that in the first place it was only like 5 dollars more I'm afraid the USB passthrough may have damaged my computer or monitor all seems well but its still a fear

Just wanted to put it out there incase anyone else wants to buy the Passthrough I recommend just getting a small X2 manual This will not get me to stop buying SI products this is more of a warning to other people I would recommend the small X2 instead of the USB Passthrough

It is never recommended you power a passthrough with your computer -- should have a standalone hub that has it's own power source. Hope you don't have any permanent damage :(

Its a powered USB hub meaning it has a plug that goes directly to the wall and a USB cable that goes to the computer

I think you will find there are many threads warning against using the X2 in passthrough while hooked to your computer. The X2 requires 1.5 amps minimum in order to function in passthrough mode. Most USB hubs are rated at .5 Mah. You can charge the X2 on your computer (I wouldn't) but it takes about 8 hours, 4 hours or less on the 1.5 household charger. The 1.5 amp household charger from SI works like a charm I have a X2 1300 Manual I use exclusively as a passthrough but it's plugged into a SI 1.5 amp charger. Because of the way the LI batteries function I will only use the one for passthrough Vaping. I do this because if you are supposed to remove a LI battery from the charger as soon as it is fully charged (as recommended by all LI manufacturers) it can't be a good idea to use it as a passthrough if it is fully charged or so it would seem. Hey I've been wrong before...

I usually use a cell phone charger on my eGo passthrough. It´s safe and I've many laying around in the house. USB hubs don't have enough amps to feed to a battery.

I use mine on my usb ports all the time and they seem to be fine. I did get a new case which has 2 usb 2.0 ports there. But usually I just plug it in to the front usb ports over night to charge the batteries. My motherboard allows the usb ports to be powered while the pc is off too.

Your computer will charge them it just takes forever but you run the risk of the battery discharging and that will fry your USB ports and possibly other circuits. When you can get a charger for $10 from SI that will do the job in 4 hours and let you use the X2s in passthrough it just doesn't seem worth it compared to the cost of a computer but I'm one of those people that weird sh** always happens too so I won't risk it. To me, it sounds like your computer's psu (power supply) just couldn't handle the power pulled by the button hit, decreased power to everything else, and your video card flipped it's breaker. I've never seen that happen, and honestly - that's a nice fail safe.
I run dual monitors, and charge my X2's and 78's without a hitch. Hope I don't jinx myself by saying that:/ And if I do, I really hope I get that message, and not a puff of smoke.

But then again.. I'd really like a good reason to build a new computer. "I just want to" isn't enough justification for my wallet. lol

Sitting down, facing forward.
I would caution against using a USB passthrough or even charging a battery on a PC/laptop USB port. This is not based on normal operation current draw issues but simply because a lithium battery can become "unstable" and short out which could potentially destroy the USB bus in the PC/laptop. That's not a good trade off, a PC/laptop worth hundreds or more for the savings of not buying a wall adapter for less than twenty bucks. That said, I have monitored both charge and pass through current on X2-650 batteries multiple times. At no time have they drawn more than 300ma, either while simply charging or while being used in a pass through mode. I have only checked X2-650s but I suspect that the same current consuption would happen with both the 900 and 1300 as well.

Just my opinion, worth what you're paying for it, your results and mileage may vary, no warrantee or guarantee is expressed or implied.
