USB Passthru Question

I'm taking a third try at vaping....(first 2 didn't go well) and just found out my order has finally been shipped from China so I'm psyched. Ordered an 801 and 901.
I've been diligently researching past threads for information and bought a Kensington Power Pack yesterday at Best buy....the suggested model.
So here's the question: Can I use the same USB passthru on both devices and what US suppliers would you recommend ordering one from (ie. quickest shipping, fair price.)?

Many thanks...

myvaporstore.com was selling them. I would consider doing something to strengthen the cord as it goes into the unit. This is where they tend to come lose and break. Also, when you are sitting at your computer and not using the power pack, I would avoid plugging into your computer. Some members have caused damage to their computers and the power is not sufficient in most cases. Instead, try one of these:

Very true. Especially if you have a factory built computer (as Dell, HP, etc) - as they only put a power supply unit, which is the source of all electonical current, barely capable (sometimes even less than recommended wattage) of all the stuff. Normally, it doesn't cause too much trouble - but when your computer is working hard and all.. it might blow-up (loud pop) the power supply unit.

If you built your own system with plenty of power and know your specs... it should be okay - but even so, I'd rather not take any chances. Powered USB hubs, or Portable Power Pack is the way to go. :)

I'm confused....you say instead of a pass-thru, just use this usb charger. Don't you need a pass-thru to get the power from this charger to the device? I don't plan on using the pass-thru straight into my laptop. I bought the $40.00 Kensington Power Pack at Best Buy....but I need to get the power pack connected to my device....via pass thru, right? Which brings me back to the original question....I hear many are cheap....who have you used in the past that you would recommend buying one again?..unless I'm missing something here.

What I said was let's say you are charging your power pack and you are sitting at your computer. You could plug your usb pass-through into one of your usb power ports on your computer when you are not using the power pack and vape away. Don't do this. Instead, plug your pass-through into the usb wall charger I showed you in the previous post. Then you have continuious power from an outlet through your pass-through to your PV.

wv2win didn't mean instead of a pass-thru. The meaning was instead of plugging a pass-thru into the computer plug it into the power pack from Amazon. I have a 901 pass-thru from PureSmoker and an 801 pass-thru from myvaporstore. They both look identical except the threads for the atomizer are different so one fits the 901 and one fits the 801. I think they are all pretty much the same except one company makes them with an actual battery instead of a hollow tube.

Got it.....the one with a battery is much better, no?

Not necessarily. It's more a matter of preference.

The ones with a battery are not truly passthroughs. The USB power charges the battery, which powers the ecig. And you can also use it unplugged as well, once the battery in the little box is charged.

The ones without the battery are true passthroughs, that is, the power is coming directly from your powered USB source or mobile power pack or wall adapter, whichever you have it plugged into.

I have both, and actually like the non-battery one better, upon reflection. Probably the higher voltage (5V instead of the 3.6 or 3.7V of the battery).

I'd just like to add my 2 cents here. Good choice on the 110v power supply. I picked up the 110v adapter from Best Buy,but it only puts out 2v. Not enough for the passthrough.

I put a small glob on clear silicone on the end of my passthrough, and tapered it out to about 1 inch. Keeps the wire from bending sharply, and you can still see the led.

I would imagine that the battery is meant to provide a more stable & consistent power source. But any battery is only good for so many cycles. When the battery goes bad, is it interchangeable?, or do you have to scrap the passthrough?

Did you get the same model from Best Buy?

I got the Kensington Portbale Power Pack which was referenced in several threads as working great. It says output is 1.00A....is this not sufficient to power the pass thru?

The Kensington is fine. 1A is fine too. It's only when you go below 1A (or below 1000mA), that you run into issues.
