I've been doing quite a bit of reading but I can't seem to find out what I'd like. I'm sure everyone that owns a passthru knows the answer though. I'm using a 510 btw.

After following a link I found that the Widow's site sells batteries for the passthru. So my questions are...

Are some less expensive passthru's sort of 'hardwired' to their battery so that when the battery dies, you just throw it away and get another complete device? If so, can you use the battery you'd normally use with the 510 with the more expensive passthrus? I noticed that the replacement passthru batteries are about 1/2 the price of a regular battery...is it just the capacity of it being less?

Thanks!

Hi Pow, The standard pass thru does not have a battery at all, it is powered from the USB supply and there is no battery to go bad and replace(even though it looks like a battery it is not)
The pass thru with the battery box made in line has a changeable battery and this powers your atomizer. The USB in turn charges the battery and keeps it at full charge in between puffs, this gives you better usable power from the unit.

Capacity of this in line battery is not an issue since Mah rating indicates how long the battery will power a device. This battery is constantly being charged so it's no problem, and should always function as long as it is plugged in and being charged, unless you use it while unplugged and drain it, you will then have to wait for it to charge up again.

Thanks MaryKay and thanks Vince..

Actually, now that I zoom in on all of the pics I've looked at, it seems all of the passthrus for the 501 have a battery, or, I could be all wet lol.

I was thinking that that battery looking part of the passthru screwed into the wire on the passthru so you could attach any battery to it, not knowing that the a different battery goes in the little box.

Nonetheless, I'll have to get one soon. Just have a PCC with 2 batteries and 2 attys. Gotta stock up on parts and charging options. Have some more juice coming tomorrow I hope. Have only the ecopure that came with the kit. Although I'm getting used to it, it's not what I want to use daily.

Passthrough and chargers here:
Widows Bead Work - charge

Also I see the Widow has some new specials - one's I hadn't seen. Check out the 'Chargem' and 'Greedum' :) Packages. That last one would be quite a starter kit!! - Kit, spare parts, PCC, PT, chargers galore, wall plugs, car plugs, all kinds of juice sizes, soft case too - that's a good one, I have it, really compact but fits the 510. Someone posted it in the 'cases' thread. Lol.

i used the passthru with a 510 and doesnt ever seem to give me the power the baterry does. Kind of disappointing to say the least. Maybe Im doing something wrong but the battery in it seems to be charged. Ive even replaced the batt to see if it was that. Does anyone else have this happen?

My 510 USB Passthrough arrived in the mail today. I plugged it in, ready to be awed, and...bleck.

It takes longer to heat the atty up to a useful level than my batts do, like a full second longer. Wouldn't be that big of a deal, but that about the same time that any frayed cart filler starts to burn. I don't understand how it can be too cool to heat the liquid, but hot enough to melt the filler, but it happens almost every time.

And you're right. I have yet to get anywhere near the vapor out of the PT as I do from my batts. Really feels like a waste of $16.

I do remember reading on here that the things work best when the're connected to a high-power USB input (so to avoid hubs and the like, unless hi-end) I hve mine plugged straight from an AC USB adapter plugged into the wall. Still very weak.

Thanks for the post I was wondering the same thing since my janty passthrough has the battery.. I had read several times that plugging into the computer that the computer wasn't always able to sustain the power supply level.. I was thinking that was where the battery would come in to keep a sustain level of power to the e cig... another mystery solved :p

Yeah... I caved to someone mentioning that it didn't matter but the earlier statements about needing a 1amp output I think makes the difference. That's what mine are in the car and by my chair and I vape just fine on them. Check your plug and see if it has an amp or miliamp rating - should say Output 5V - 500ma or 300ma or 1amp or 1000ma....

Many vendors - first noticed it at ruyandirect and eastmall - have a warning on their usb and wall plug adapter/chargers (rated 300-500ma) that 'this will not run a passthrough' and there must be a reason for why they note that. I understand that the 510 has a battery inline and that it should be the thing that is charged so that a charging amperage is all one should need to run it but mine run or charge better on the 1amp plugs. If I weren't getting the vapor I do with regular batteries I'd rip them out and just vape on my JS's and free 510 batts. I have friends locally that have the same 1amp or dual 2amp (1amp each output) plugs I have for wall and car and they are doing just fine.

Where do you get a 1 amp USB Wall plug?

Where do you get a 1 amp USB Wall plug?

Amazon.com: SE-2USB: High Power Slim AC Wall Plug to 2 x 5V USB Adapter (Retractable US Plug): Everything Else

Amazon.com: Belkin Dual USB Car Charger for iPod (Black)

Both dual ported so I run my JS and 510 PT through the one and both wife and I can vape the JS's (or 510PT's) in the car. Plus you can charge a PCC, batt with a usb corded charger or a Kensington on one, vape on the other. :)

I found another dual 1amp x2 car plug here:

usbfever.com - Accessories for USB Gadgets, PC, iPhone / iPod, PDA / Phone Accessories, Charger, Bike / Car Mounts

and at the same site... this odd thing:
usbfever.com - Accessories for USB Gadgets, PC, iPhone / iPod, PDA / Phone Accessories, Charger, Bike / Car Mounts

I have the ones above and they all work fine.

Cheaper possibilities but if I were a vendor, I'd have to call them to make sure before a bulk buy. Some conflicting data. The last one (wall and car plug package) the wall plug specs say 500ma max but it says 1000ma on the picture of the plug.
