Using a Kanger SubTank PLUS on a IPV4?

Hello guys,

I've shown an interest in the ipv4 Box mod as I see it can go from 10-100W. And I like the usage of sub-ohm tanks and I want to get a nice one for this that can handle the wattage if I ever want to go a little nuts and vape at 60+ watts or more.

The problem I see is that a lot of the sub-ohm tanks are not that big and only a few stand out like the Aspire Atlantic Mega which can handle up to 100W (which I've been eying because of the 5ml). But also I like the Kanger SubTank PLUS which is 7ml..BUT..from what I understand based on the specs about it, it looks like its limited in a sense:

Wattage Range: 15-30W (0.5ohm coil) 12-25W (1.2ohm coil)
Coils Available: 0.5ohm and 1.2ohm OCC Coils

So if I'm understanding this, if I try to even go over 30W I'm assuming something bad might happen on the mod or tank or will probably say it won't work I guess.

Now here is what I was told....one of the guys at a vape shop I pretty much trust, said that you can't really go by these wattage ranges sometimes and it "depends" and I can more than likely push the tank pass the regulated 30W range, but I think he said if you use the RBA kit, but not sure.

Is that possible with the coils, or would I have to convert to the RBA if I wanted to go further with the wattage. I more so like the fact of a bigger tank, but I would also like a tank to handle the wattage load too if I ever have the urge to want to kick it up a notch as well.

You can definitely fire your coils at higher wattages than the recommended, however it does increase the chance of getting a dry hit. If you use a lower viscosity juice (higher PG, lower VG) that will lessen the chance of a dry hit at higher wattages since the lower viscosity juice will wick faster.

FWIW, I have an Atlantis 2 tank with the 0.3 ohm coil which is rated for 70-80 watts. However, I generally vape it at around 50-60 watts, simply because the juice I am using in that tank is a 20PG/80VG juice. I can vape it at 70 watts, but I tend to chain vape (taking one hit a few seconds after the other) and when I do that by the fourth or fifth hit the juice starts to taste a little burnt.

If you want a subohm tank that can handle the 70-80 watt range I would definitely recommend the Atlantis 2 with the 0.3 ohm coil. The wicking holes are huge in comparison to the holes on the Subtank OCC. They look to be easily double the diameter, and the coil has 4 wicking holes versus 2 on the Subtank OCC. And I have read that the Subtank OCC wicks much better than the Subtank RBA.

I've gone past 50 watts on my subtank plus using the rba, but it's a pain in the ... to set up your wicking to be just right for it. I'd say get a different tank for anything above 30.

Aspire will probably release a 7-8ml extension for the new atlantis... eventually. You could just buy an original atlantis or eleaf melo and use the 7ml extension for the OG atlantis. The 0.3ohm coils for the v2 will fit the original atlantis or Melo.

But the airflow isn't enough to handle the high wattage.
