I have 2 5ml bottles of regular nic blend that I would like to "spice" up some. My question is: could I use a drop or two of McCormick Pure Mint Extract or McCormick Cinnamon Extract?
Pure Mint Extract:
Alcohol-85%
Water
Oil of peppermint
Extract of spearmint leaves
Cinnamon Extract:
PG
Alcohol-51%
water
Extract of Cinnamon
Thanks for any input!

I can give you my experience with this, please bear in mind it only applies specifically when used with my set-up, for me.

YMMV :)

Pure peppermint oil added to a 100% VG-based tobacco liquid works very well for me and was my all-day vape for several months. The peppermint oil is fairly strong so you don't need a lot (two drops per ml of base is a starting point). If you add a tiny amount of menthol - and I do mean tiny as menthol is extremely powerful - then you get an interesting 'layered' minty menthol taste, it's one of my favorite tobacco recipes. You can get a tiny drop out of a syringe for example, and one tiny drop might do for 2ml of base. Of course, it depends on the strength of the menthol liquid used, I make mine by creating a saturated solution of menthol crystals in 90-10 VG + alcohol.

Notes:
- This oil works fine, for me, and I've had no problems of any kind. By this I mean that although I have very sensitive lungs, after a year of using it there are no issues (except of course my lungs are far better than when I smoked), and the atty is not affected in any way.
- I've had a couple of atties and carts dedicated to it for a very long time, and I have never cleaned them and they have never blown. Make of that what you will (1 stock atty @ 5v, 1 LR atty @ 3.7v).
- I only use 5 volts + a stock atty, or an LR atty @ 3.7 volts. I can't comment on a stock atty run at 3.7.

As far as I'm concerned peppermint oil has no effect on the atty or the lungs. However you might find different. People have reported their atties clogging but I'm assuming that is with stock atties @ 3.7v. Go to 6 watts and up and it works OK for me, at least 6 months of use with no cleaning or burnout tells the story. However there is one important point that needs to be mentioned here: I rotate 3 or 4 atties and flavors through the day, I don't use one atty all the time, so there are at least two factors here that might explain the atty longevity - they don't get caned, and they only get used for a third or a quarter of the time.

If you want strong TH then this recipe is good - use it at 5 volts, add some TE tobacco extract with alcohol, and you've got TH like a mule kick. Heavy smokers can't take it for example, it's too strong for them. Only chainvapers are tough enough :)

Cinnamon: I'd guess this would be similar but have no experience with it, I think some people's lungs would be sensitive to this and that would probably apply to me. I don't need it for the TH as it's easy to make powerful TH liquids without adding tabasco, cinnamon or whatever. A little added judiciously might be fun though, if I got some apple pie flavor it would be worth considering.

Hey I just noticed I already answered this thread. WTF?? Guy if you don't have enough info by now then you need to ........[censored]

I have kilo quantities of all the essential oils mentioned in this thread on hand, plus many others as I use those and absolutes in my business to scent my product line. I don't have any tobacco absolutes yet, but plan to get some.
Absolutes are not the same as EO's by the way. Absolutes are the less volatile alkyl esters that contain the scent of many florals and are more closely related to a wax or less volatile alcohol than a volatile essential oil. Tougher to harvest, they are normally far more expensive than EO's, but much stronger in their scent. Because they are less volatile, their scent, or flavor in this case, won't dissipate as rapidly as with an EO.
I would think that unless stored in nearly full glass bottles and ideally (though not required) refrigerated, an EO based vaping juice should probably be consumed within a couple of weeks due to their propensity to evaporate from the solution. Evaporation of the flavoring EO would concentrate the nicotine mg/ml balance of the solution to at least some extent, but also effect the flavor.
I am a newbie to vaping (less than a week) but am already vaping mostly DIY juices. As I make juices with EO's and absolutes and vape them, I will report on how well it works out in this awesome forum.

I was just looking at those McCormick oils and extracts yesterday. What about extracts? Anybody know?

McCormicks are weak to me. Lorann's are your best bet and safe as well.

I keep hearing about alcohol based liquids. I have my first kit en route at the moment but I am under 21 (so the legal limit is .01 for me in my state). Does the atomizer evaporate the alcohol or can this affect my BAC? I would think vaping Everclear while driving isn't a good idea...

Atomizer heats the liquid and in turn will burn off the PGA. The final result is a good throat hit. I tend to stay away from PGA due to not wanting a throat hit but everyone has their tastes.

Inhaling alcohol causes a stronger 'drunk' effect than drinking it and doesn't have as much of an effect on BAC. Unless you vape 15ml of pure Everclear in <30 minutes and weigh very little, you won't even hit 0.01 BAC. However, you'd probably be unable to get into a car if you did that, much less drive it. Legally, it won't cause you any problems to use PGA, and unless I vape 50% or more PGA in my mix, I haven't noticed much impairment.

I haven't really heard of alcohol based liquids. Though there are alcohol based flavorings, they usually also have water and/or glycerin in them.

Just noticed you're in KY, check out our group: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/bluegrass-vapers/

Carless, I am an aromatherapist and am making DIY nic free e juices with essential oils too! It will be nice to have someone to compare notes with. so far i've found that lemon, lime blood orange and tangerine make a delicious vape!
Ardeagold, Lorann oils are flavoring oils, some of which are essential oils (orange, lemon, cinnamon, peppermint) but most are not. They are used for candies and making flavored syrups and such. very concentrated. usually in a base of PG or VG with added coloring.
Most of McCormick's extracts are little bits of essential oils or absolutes (orange, lemon, cinnamon, vanilla) diluted in tons of grain alcohol sometimes with colors added.

To my knowledge, there are no essential oils that contain any lipids at all. that is why they are known as essential or 'volitile' oils. the lipid (fatty) oils (sweet almond, olive, sunflower) are usually used as carrier oils, diluting the extremely potent essential oils so they are safe to use topically.

Essential oils are powerful substances and they must be treated with respect. a little goes a long way!

I just bought some 100% Sweet Orange Essential Oil which is for aromatherpay. 10ml for 3usd.

Added 4 -5 drops to 9ml of menthol 30%vg and 70%pg that was cheaply bought from China and had no flavor. 11mg nicotine.

Now it tastes pretty damned good. in fact I can honestly describe it as delicious.

I hope this is not going to do my body any damage....

I am noticing more of a lightheadedness than usual. Like being a little tipsy.

Is that many drops okay for my health? How much could I safely vape in a day?

Ah. Well an irritant wont do that much harm. Less than smoking I'd imagine. Pretty hard to imiginae oils from orange skins doing too much damage at 5 drops. It did make me feel a bit stoned and accentuated the nicotine effects to the point where I just couldn't sleep though, so that mix with the Orange EO is going in the bin. I used too much by far.

I put 3 drops of the mix (5 drops EO plus 9ml pg/vg menthol mix) into 4 ml of strawberry and even that gave me the same effect when there must have been less than a drop of the orange oe in there! That stuff is crazy strong.

I'd say about one drop in 20ml of menhtol (or other) e-juice would be enough and I went overboard for sure with 5 drops in 10ml...!

I'll stick to the store bought juices I think!

Fun with orange oil.

"Avoid breathing product vapour. Apply local ventilation where possible."

Section 8, Material Safety Data Sheet, Organic Orange Oil Sweet
http://www.thesoapkitchen.co.uk/ima...ange Oil Sweet, Organic, The Soap Kitchen.pdf

and...

"What Is Orange Oil?
Orange oil is an essential oil extracted from the rind of oranges. Commercially, the oil is mixed with surfactants that make it safe as a household cleaner, but in much higher concentrations, it is also poisonous enough to be an effective insecticide.

How Orange Oil Works
Orange oil is a natural solvent that chemically reacts with oil to break it down. The active agents can dissolve glue. It is effective in removing sticky tags from items. It can be mixed with alcohol but not water. Depending on how it is mixed, it has uses that range from cleaning greasy car parts to removing oil based stains from clothing and polishing furniture by removing smudges and fingerprints.

What Is the Active Ingredient in Orange Oil?
The main ingredient from this extraction is d-limonene, a hydrocarbon. It is a pale yellow fluid that smells strongly of oranges. As an active ingredient in cleaning solutions it has replaced more dangerous solvents to remove oil from many different things, including the oily rocks in Alaska after the Exxon Valdez oil spill several years ago.

Is It Effective in Killing Termites?
Current claims are that orange oil is effective to eradicate termites from wooden surfaces in the home. The chemical compound d-limonene is injected into the termite mounds and because it is toxic, it kills insects and eggs on contact. It has a residual effect of treating wood and making it toxic to any remaining termites."

The above data sheet is for a completely different product. The Orange oil say from Lorann's is FDA approved....The above mentioned "sweet" orange oil has been manufactured differently for a different purpose all together. If you go to the MSDS website and plug a search in for orange oil...there are 409 different msds sheets from a lot of different suppliers.....All of the warnings refer to straight product.....I mean...even nasal sprays say to seek medical attention if ingested and to flush eyes if contact is made. IMHO the small amount being used is no more harmful (as long as one isn't allergic) than the pg and vg.
