Hey everybody. I would post this in the new members forum but I guess I am no longer one of those. Yay me lol. Anyway, I've never built a coil before. From the videos I've seen it doesn't look too hard. But my question is this. I have the Kanger mini Subtank rba that has the wire already twisted and tightened on the channels. If I am just wanting to try it out, do I just put it on, make sure I've got a reading, run some cotton thru it, clip the ends, dampen the the thing, but it back together juice and let it soak then fire away? For a complete coil n00b who is not made of 5 dollar bills, how do I use this thing for the first time? Thank you all!

it wicks just like a kayfun. look up some youtube videos. i leave more extra cotton, just make sure to tuck in down to the juice holds. the per install coil is .5 ohms. i been using my for a month and it will last a long time. just besure to dry burn first, rinse and then rewick it after a week of so. you will never need to paid $3 a coil again.

Ok. So see here's where I am a n00b (try not to get too annoyed with me). I'm not sure what a Kayfun is lol (yeah people like me probably shouldnt have subtanks right?), so do a search on youtube say for "wicking kayfun"and that should show me? Ok, and then how do I see the even glow? Put it on a battery you mean, give it say 20 watts and make sure the wire turns orange? I apologize I'm not trying to be a smart alec I seriously am just not sure of what I'm doing and don't wanna mess up a tank or battery that has worked excellently for the last week.

Yup. you just start at the cotton wicking part. I personally think he is using a bit too much cotton, but it works for him. I tend to trim a bit more off than he does. The most important part is to remember is to clear the wick away from the juice channels. When he uses the piece of Kanthal (I use a very small precision screwdriver), you can see the light at the bottom of the channel. That's what you shoot for.

Ok. Well first try overall I think was a success. Coil is reading .8 at 21 watts, juice is a little weak but it's 3 mg max 80/20 fruit circles that probably needs to be steeped more. I've had 1 burnt hit and that was when I pushed it up to 23.5 watts. Air seems a little restricted. I think I may have used a little too much cotton and need to clear the channels more next time. With the spare wire and dry burning this seems like it may be a viable alternative to $5 a coil at the B&M's here.

Alright, so earlier today I got a few burned hits in a row and the coil readings started going all over the place! They were up to like 2.0 at one point. I left alone for a while and it seems back to normal taste wise. Coil is reading from .6 to .8. What do you guys think is going on with the ohms not staying the same? Is this normal? Something with the channels? Thank you folks for your help. This forum prolly allows you to tell me to .... if I am being a nuisance.

Check that the two screws are tightened down; repeated heating and cooling can cause screws to loosen.

(Otherwise the extra ohms might be from poor contact down in the 510 thread well.)

and if you pick yourself up a 5 pack of rba heads, you can always have them coiled and wicked ready to go, so when one head is giving trouble you can pop in another one

Thanks guys. Dinger, I have actually looked into that. I'm trying to find the right tool to pull the old cotton out. Im sure I've got something here. That will probably be my next attempt at vaping progression as I know now I can at least get the RBA to work for one tankfull. Replacement RBA is a good idea. I have a friend who is more adept at this than I, he could help too. I was think about ordering a 5 pack of the .5's a bit ago but I'm gonna hold off and tinker more.

I just use a toothpick to start poking the cotton out one of the holes. Then, pair of tweezers to get a handle on it.

Edyle - I'd never seen those RBA heads before. That's pretty cool..... Must take a looksee :)

the wick comes out easier when wet; or you can pick at it and shred it, and whatevers left gets burned when you dryburn;

BUT! If you want TOOLS!! Check out the Cosmetics Aisle!
