this is my first e cig..

ordered the shorty manual from vapor 4 life .. as i understand it this is the modem KR808D-1 right?

when i use it and press the manual button I immediately hear a crackling sound as the light comes on as if something is burning?

i also get a harsh sting in my throat sometimes.. i tried different carts and same thing..

is this normal? it sounds like a crackle from fire wood burning in a camp fire if that helps..

i read some threads about cartomizers burning the material inside.. and that is really not healthy..

help?

Yup thats all normal. Actually I really enjoy the crackle of the cartos. the feeling your getting in the throat, normal, but also something that youll get used to or maybe not and have to drop to lower nic. I personally also enjoy the throat hit.

I keep seeing people say the joye 510 or ego are the best?

they have non disposable atomizers

is the vapor king not as good and the integrated atomizer causing the harsh feeling?

im only vaping the 11mg cartomizers

A cartomizer will always have a bit of a "Throat hit", if you will. Is the 510 better? Depends on your preferences. If you ask me? No. They're a ton of hassle and more expensive than just using cartos and the KR8 in the long run. I don't want to spend $9 on a atomizer for a 510 every week or two, personally.

I got the harsh throat burning too, when I first started. It went away for me after a few days, and only happened when I would start vaping for the first time each day. The tactic I developed to combat it which worked very well was to take small rips at first, and each time it happened, took a drink of water.
It does go away though, after a week or so.
The crackling is small globules of liquid popping as they are heated into vapor. I was concerned, too, so I dissected the first cartomizer that I finished and there was no burning. Then I consulted with a friend of mine who took their undergrad degree in chemistry.

i don't remember having harsh throat hit but i do remember being thirsty like a mad man. that is also part of the norm at first.
I have a 510, pretty happy with it. 3 months and i haven't had to replace any of my attys. the problem with attys is that people screw them on to tight and the wires inside connected to the - and + get wrapped and break or short.
i didn't know any of that info untill about a month ago and have yet to worry about it because i dont go all roid-rage on screwing it in, hehe.
nothing should be burning inside or would happen. one could end up melting plastic and thats not good if it starts to smoke, the chances of that happing on a stock set up isn't something you need to be to concerned about

Most people actually *want* that throat hit that you don't like. It sounds like you may like the VG versions of ejuice/cartos because they're much milder.

As others have already stated, the crackling sound you hear is actually a good thing.

Also, how are you inhaling the vapor? Are you drawing it directly into your lungs, or are you holding it in your mouth first, then inhaling? It makes a difference. Drawing directly into the lungs makes vaping much harsher and it can make you cough a lot.

I also use V4L cartos. Thats how I tell when a carto is about out of juice when I don't hear the crackling anymore. I have noticed the first drag or two are a little harsh. But I liken that to breaking in an atomizer on a 510 or other ecigs with a stand-alone atomizer. I also start getting a bad after taste when the carto is running out and I'm close to burning it up.

stick to the cartos, the crackling will become second nature and will tell you if your device is actually working or not. Also they are not disposable, I've kept mine in circulation for over 2 months and they have no signs of stopping. Buy yourself some e-juice and start refilling those cartos to get the best out of them! I personally use HV devices which tend to kill normal atomizers (I killed 2 atties in 2 days), but cartomizers tend to take the beating a lot better, and with a price point of roughly $1.50 they're more than 80% cheaper and last longer with proper use, whereas a pampered regular atty pretty much dies whenever it wants to. Keep in mind, if you do decide to move to a 510/Ego there are cartomizers for those e-cigs, however the low resistance options are few (in case you want more vapor without buying a newer device).
