I have had a Vamo 2 since Feb and notice that the threads are showing signs of being stripped. I can get carto tanks on there but not my Protanks. I can't even get a adapter to go on there.

I was planning to get a Vamo 3 next month and was just wondering if the threads on them were better then on the 2? I know not to over tighten and I clean it regularly kinda sucks cause the vision spinner I got last Oct is still going strong with the threads and I only paid 20 bucks for it.

Is there any kind of trick I could do to kinda revive the threads? I just hate to think I can't use it anymore just because of that that?

Thanks!

Drill it and heli-coil it, thats about all I can think of.

Oh boy... I'm not the original poster but am having the same problem with threading issues.

What do I drill and what is the heli-coil process? Please elaborate or point me in the right direction for an answer.

(Maybe the answer was a joke and I'm too dumb to get it?)

Thanks,

Tim

My protank 2 was sitting on the v3 heads crooked from day one and now a month later the threads are completely shot. Nothing screws on, not even tanks with ego threading hold anymore. Its ridiculous that the threads of my cheap $5 ego batteries got more mileage than the vamo threads. I regret my vamo v3 purchase. I guess you get what you pay for.

Has anyone tried an ego to 510 adapter? I'm not referring to the 510 to ego that's fairly common but an ego to 510 that I've never actually seen. The vamo has ego threads as well. Maybe an adapter that threaded there would make all the threading problems go away, ego being a much stronger threading style.

The closest I've seen to an ego to 510 is an ecab to 510 that I'm not sure will actually work. I just ordered one to see if it fits on my vamo. I'll let you know if it does the job when I get it.

How would that potentially work any better than a 510 to 510 adapter/shorty extender?

The ego threads are much bigger around and are much less prone to stripping. An ego to 510 adapter would be a cheap replacement for the stock 510 threads and won't strip out the the ego threads. You wouldn't even use the stock 510 threads. That's the big advantage.

I'm pretty sure this is the V2 top cap. It would probably work as a V3 replacement but the V3 has a different styling and a removable drip ring.

It is a V2 top cap, I found a US vendor that had them for about $6. I have the stainless finish V3, and the V2 stainless version actually looks pretty good on the V3.

Plus all I have is 510 devices, so losing Ego capability wasn't an issue for me.

Yeah I ordered two from that place. Can't remember what it's called.

So did you swap out the v3 top for the v2? The v2 does have ego threads in there, though I've never used them.

E-cigarette impressions. Nice people there, by the way.

Yes, I did:

Why yes, yes it does!

Helicoils, as far as I know, do not exist for a 510 connector thread size which is a real oddball. You might try to take a single strand of copper wire from 18 gage multi strand lamp wire and wrap it tightly around an airflow controller thread carefully and make sure that it sits properly and trim off the dangling ends with a scissor. If you ask nicely at your local hardware store, they will probably cut you off a few inches at no cost.

Air flow controllers can be had for about $3. If there is enough thread on the Vamo for the wire wrapped AFC thread to catch, you will be good to go. AFC's are chrome plated and do not add a lot of height to a Vamo and look fine.

I doubt that there is such an animal as an ego to 510 since ego batteries have a 510 connector already. There are some conductive epoxys out there, but I am not so sure how well they would stand up. It gets pretty hot down there.

You could kludge a solution by daisy chaining an ego to 901 and then a 901 to 510, but it would be ungodly ugly.

Helicoils would eventually be the way to go for this very common problem-not only for the Vamo but for a lot of other devices as well. The problem is that walls of a lot of 510 connectors are not very thick, and Helicoils require cutting and tapping for an insert.

There is no happy solution right now other than replacing the cap. Hopefully, I am wrong.
