Vamo v5 R.I.P

So, I'm still kind of new to the community, lurked for a while, and have started a couple threads over the past year or so. My Vamo recently has kicked the bucket and I'm in search for another great mod. Provari being one to consider, but not on the heavy side. I'm going to start rebuilding my own coils for my PT3 and purchase the air valve for it to kind of 'hold over' my cloud chasing without going to a full mech mod (no offence to you mech peeps out there, I'm still kind of scared tbh). What would be a good replacement to stick up or surpass the Vamo v5? Or should I just bite the bullet and get another one? Cheers and happy vaping everyone. :vapor:

The Provari clearly surpasses the Vamo IMO/IME. I own one of each. The Vamo is better at making quick adjustments and seeing your settings/battery status/ohm reading quickly. The Provari is better at everything else IMO, IME, JMHO, JM2C, YMMV, take everything I say with a metric ton of salt and disregard it, etc, etc, etc.

Oh, no; definitely don't just go get another one.
Get something else like a zmax or sid or svd, but as long as the vamo is dead, it's worth it to open it up;
maybe the problem is the center pin insulator; I replaced mine with a grommet from a protank coil; had to resolder afterwards because the wires got busted from opening it up; I put in better quality wire too; used speaker wire;

once you open it up once and see how it's made up, it's an advantage for future repair.

If you like the Vamo (as I do) then getting another one is a good plan imho - they are very inexpensive. But if you fancy a change why not take a look at the MVP v2? Only downside with this is the internal battery, but otherwise a great device imho. :)

Also limited to 5v/11w, versus 6v/15w (vamo). And honestly... My MVP seemed to be weaker on the same settings as my Vamo, with the Vamo having more range. I'd only recommend the MVP to people that stay in the 6-10w range and don't wanna carry an extra battery with them, or frequently have their phone dieing while they're out :p

If you're gonna get into rebuildables, either 1) grab another vamo (They're cheap and work great, I love mine... Never used a provari tho) to use til you get more comfortable with building and wanna make that switch to mech, or 2) grab a DNA 30 device. The DNA 30 will be more expensive (Cheapest clone I've found was $80 on ebay, tobeco tube mod with DNA30 chip... Non-clones can run you $200+) but it'll work for your PT3's and really excel if you get into the rebuildable world and drop into sub-ohm territory (Or just for more wattage in general, since rebuildables can take a LOT more power than those crappy stock coils.. Where as the Provari won't fire anything under 1Ω I believe, MVP is also 1Ω, Vamo v5 is 1.2Ω).

All good points. :) Don't the DNA30s start at 4v, though? This would make them impractical for certain situations (e.g using a 1.5 ohm readymade low res atty. I'd want to run that at about 3.5 v.). They sound great otherwise though. :)

1.5Ω dual coil kanger heads should be able to handle 10.7 watts... You may have a point there tho, I think you're right about the minimum output being 4v and that much wattage on a factory coil might be asking too much :p

Btw, if the air valve you're talking about (@OP) is the little ring you add under it... I wouldn't recommend it. It can tighten your airflow but won't really do anything to open it up. We sell 'em where I work (I work at a vape shop) and I've kinda tried one... Wouldn't recommend them to anyone unless they're trying to tighten up their draw. Besides that they're kinda shoddy, screw your protank into it too tight and it won't fire on some devices... Screw it on too loose you get a bad connection... Just all around not a great product, IMO.

I just got mine to fire at 3.5. Then I put in a fresh battery and it wouldn't go below 3.8

After a day of not working and watching vape vids and such. I'm heavily considering the Cana Mod DNA 30 from Elev8 and putting my Vamo under the knife muahahah :matrix:. Anyone have thoughts, comments concerns? All input is welcome. :)

I have that clone and it's nice. That said, I would give the Dovpo E Mech a serious look. Battery life will be twice as good plus the power adjustment range is much better. It goes from 3W to 30W instead of the 7W to 30W the Clouper offers. This might be very helpful if you plan on using a clearomizer. It also sports a USA chipset..

I checked out that Dovpo E-Mech...man that thing is HUUUUGEE lol. Maybe in a future purchase, most definitely. It has a LOT of bells and whistles with it, which is pretty bad a**. Can you use dual IMR battery on the Dovpo? All I have is AW IMR batteries, still new with the chemistry of batteries.

Option 1: get an MVP 2.0 for $40 over at 101vape...it's an inexpensive and wildly versatile device which I prefer to my vamo and SVD

Option 2: bite the bullet and get a provari

Option 3: spend about $40-$60 on a mech clone and kayfun clone (throw in a cheap rda too while you're at it)

I chose options 1 and 3 and couldn't be happier. My vv tube mods just sit on the coffee table now.

I would go with your options v1k1ng but I don't feel confident as of yet for a mech mod, also having a MVP puts my batteries out of commission. I'm still trying to find out what the deal is with theses DNA 20/30 clone and legit devices I keep seeing around the internet.

I loved my original Vamo and it's been alive and kicking since it was introduced into the market to this very day! It's my work horse, for sure. I just picked up a Vamo V5 and it completely shut down on me after about 4 days. The + button and screen pushed in when I pressed the + button, seems as if it was not glued in or the like. The center 510 pin would barely make any connection and was loose after just a few days. Never dropped or handled improperly.

My original Vamo must have been dropped several dozen times. It's scratched up to high hell, the screen is scratched, etc. Not one issue. The shop I go to has had several returns for the same issues as I had.

/shrug

Going to be picking up an SVD soon. I have my original Vamo and SiD as backup for now.

EDIT:
Forget the SVD - I decided to get a VTR, instead. Just picked one up from GoodEJuice and man this thing is awesome. It's my first box mod and holy nuts this thing is a solid mod. Vapes really well, easy to use and I dig the aesthetic. My only complaint is that it will not fit my Efest 18650 2250 button tops. All good tho, picked up a couple of flat-tops while I was there and this thing is working great so far. I'm happy.

Most of those dna devices do not use replaceable 18650 batteries.

Focalecig.com happens to have a great Group Buy running on the Vamo V5 for $19.90 .. there is only 18 hours left to the promotion, so if you are thinking about sticking with the Vamo V5, this is an inexpensive replacement for it. You will have to wait for shipping from China though, which may not be ideal if need a replacement ASAP.

If you decide to check it out, just click on the Group Buy link at the the top of the home page. :) ... Another alternative to the Vamo is the SVD if you are looking to stay to with a similar device.
