    Somewhere between here and there
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining me for yet another review. This time I will be taking a look at the Vandy vape Pulse V3 that was sent to me by sourcemore in order to provide you with a fair and honest review. They have also given me a discount code that I will provide at the end of this review which will make the Pulse V3 quite affordable. The Pulse V3 has a redefined body design and has a new easy fill bottle. It has a maximum output of 95 watts and is compatible with 21700 batteries as well as 18650 with the included adapter. The chipset in the V3 offers Wattage, Bypass, and TC modes and is waterproof. Just as the previous versions were, the panels are replaceable so you can customize the V3 however you like. I’m sure other companies will make some panels also but Vandy Vape has some available also. I look forward to testing the V3 since I just recently purchased the V2 and have been using it for a short time.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Pulse V3 coloring surprised me. The rainbow type coloring effect made it a little difficult to photograph. The Pulse 3 name is in large print near the top with a sketch of the device below that. Also the Tony B. name is near the bottom since this one and the previous versions of the Pulse were designed in cooperation with Tony.

The same psychedelic coloring is used on the back of the box also. Once again the Pulse 3 name is printed near the top. There is a contents list, company information, a warning, and a list of features.

Once the top of the box is removed, you will find the Pulse 3 sitting in an insert with the dark squonk bottle pre-installed and a clear squonk bottle sitting to the side. It’s really nice in my opinion that there are two bottles included in the kit. There is also included a user manual, 18650 battery adapter and a short USB-C charging cable. The Pulse 3 can use a 21700 but like most 21700 mods there is an 18650 battery adapter. This one has the Vandy Vape name stamped into it in large letters. Kind of unnecessary branding in my opinion.

The version I received is called Jelly Yellow. I’ll be honest, I just don’t get the name. It doesn’t look yellow to me at all. It just looks like frosted clear to me. It’s a little hard to see but the Pulse 3 name is stamped into the side that has the squonk bottle exposed. There is a strong magnet on both the top and bottom that holds the panel in securely with no movement.

The opposite side also has the same strong magnets holding the panel in place. There is an opening molded into the body where the Pulse symbol is that helps you more easily lift that panel. Once lifted, you can then push the battery out the bottle side to change the battery.

There are different panel sets available so you can customize the Pulse 3. I thought it was a great design idea that not only the side panels are replaceable but you can also lift the front button panel and change out the entire panel or just swap out the buttons. It is also held in place by two magnets. They hold so well that I didn’t even realize at first that the button panel was removable. The circuit board has a Nano coating to help it be water resistant. Of course if you drop it in water then you’ll want to let it dry before powering it up but it should be ok.

I have used the Pulse .5 and the Pulse 2 and both had plastic bodies like the Pulse 3 but the 510 connections were mounted in plastic. With the Pulse three they have gone a step further by making the entire top plate of metal that houses the 510 connection. The plate is held in place by four screws which must be screwed into plastic but at least there won’t be any cracking of the top of the mod. I’m not all that familiar with different squonk connection types but this one appears to be made of stainless steel on the top side which would make sense since you are feeding liquid through it and would want it to be somewhat sanitary. I did not try removing the top plate to verify that the screws go into plastic but to me it just makes sense since most of the body is made of plastic.

The battery polarity is somewhat clearly marked on the inside of the battery compartment and both contacts are plated while the top contact is spring loaded. It’s a little tight installing a 21700 battery but not too difficult.

I very much like the squonk bottle design on the Pulse 3. In my opinion it is the best upgrade on this one. Like I mentioned earlier, there are two squonk bottles included with one clear and one a darker color. The squonk bottles have a rubber plug on the front much like a boro tank would so you don’t have to remove the bottle or even unscrew a cap like the V2 had in order to fill the bottle. You simply remove the side panel, lift the plug and fill the bottle. I didn’t see anywhere that it states the liquid capacity of the squonk bottles but would guess it’s probably 6-7ml. When you need to clean out the bottle then it is easily removed and a quick quarter turn of the bottle allows the top to be removed for cleaning.

The Pulse 3 has a large round fire button at the top followed by the display screen, the + and – buttons, and the USB-C charging port near the bottom. The display screen shows the following information.

    • Battery level indicator
    • Puff counter
    • Set wattage
    • Coil resistance
    • Output voltage while firing
    • Length of time of current puff in seconds
I find it odd that the puff counter is in fairly large font near the top of the screen. Normally this is in smaller font with the rest of the settings closer to the bottom on most mods. Also, it seems odd to me that changing the color only changes the color of the little pulse symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. It also changes the background color when turning the mod on and off. It would make more sense to me to change the font color or the color of the background on the main screen. There are quite a few options in the menu system and you can actually disable modes of operation that you don’t ever use. The button operation of the mod is as follows.

    • Press the fire button 5X to turn the device on/off
    • Press the fire button 3X to highlight the mode from the main screen and the + and – buttons can be used to switch modes
    • Press the fire and + buttons to lock/unlock the wattage adjustment buttons
    • Press the fire button and the – button to flip the screen
    • Press the + and – buttons to enter the menu
Once the menu is accessed, the following options are available.

    • Settings where you can toggle on/off different modes of operation available. The available modes are Watts, Bypass, Volt, TC Ni, TC Ti, TC SS.
    • Hibernate: Set amount of time until the display times out
    • Brightness
    • Reset Puff counter
    • Replace UI: Set color of display (only changes lower left symbol on main screen and background on messages and power on/off).
    • Software version
    • Factory reset
    • Exit

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

I feel like Vandy Vape has listened to end users and has made some definite upgrades on the Pulse 3. The metal top plate with the 510 connection is an attempt to improve the durability of the top of the mod. The other main upgrade in my opinion is the squonk bottle with the front fill port eliminating the need for removing the bottle or removing a fill cap to refill. This was my favorite upgrade on the Pulse 3.

As I mentioned earlier, I just don’t get the Jelly Yellow name of the version that I received. That being said, I don’t mind the frosted clear appearance at all and think that it could make for an interesting final design with some different side and front panels. Vandy Vape is selling some different panels and I’m sure other manufacturers will make some aftermarket panels.

I noticed that the squonk bottle on the Pulse 3 is very easy to press and when the bottle is over half full that it takes very little pressure to deposit a good amount of liquid. A single squonk was enough to replenish the liquid in the rda I used for testing the Pulse 3 most of the time.

I ran my wattage setting between 40-45 watts and found that while using a 21700 battery the life of the battery seemed like the battery management was good. I would prefer that there was a battery percentage on the display rather than just a battery indicator symbol.

My only real complaint on the Pulse 3 is that they gave the option of changing the display color but it only changed the small symbol in the lower left while in the main screen. I feel like they missed the opportunity to change either the background or wattage color. I would have preferred some more color on the main screen since that’s what you see most of the time.

I found the Pulse 3 as good operationally as any other squonk mod that I have used and would recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive squonk mod that performs well. I’d like to thank Sourcemore and Kavis for sending the Vandy Vape Pulse 3 for this review. Thanks also to you the readers.
