And yes I am speaking from experience, I wasn't a glue eater but Play Doh back in the day was OK. Hell you made cookies and then tried them out

I've tried CAP, TFA and FW and all give me the same results. The sad thing is I love vanilla custard, there is a place close to the house that has the most incredible eclairs and that's the taste I am chasing.

Anyone make a recommendation on a true tasting vanilla custard so I can stop spinning my wheels.

Classwife, thanks for the response!

I recently mixed a 60ml Dreamsicle recipe and the percentage of total VC I used was .9mls. It was the only thing I could taste or smell in the mix. I've lowered the percentage and it's always the most forward....Play Doh. I can't get a true VC to replicate no matter what percentages I'm using.

I normally sub using VBIC but I want Custard damn it :)

All vanilla custards are similar to me too. Vanillas and some creams are muted too, so your not alone. I can live with the custard taste but I would love to find an intense vanilla to supplement/compliment the custard . DIYFS/DFS & Lotus Flavors(Medicine Flower) have heard put out a good vanilla but with shipping and item costs both a little pricey for me for a single purchase.

I've been tempted to try this. Use just a few of the LA water solubles with good success.

Also AP is my friend.

Good luck. :)

Anytime I mix custard I dont even smell of it for a month. Let alone taste it. It takes quite a while to settle down. Thats why custard recipes are so hard. They take forever to develop. Mix it , wait 30 days. Mix it, wait 30 days untill you get it right.

I appreciate the information and dc99, a month.... hell I'm lucky if I can keep my hands off of mixes for a week but I'll give it a try and see if it lays down a bit.

I just went and looked, mine is the V2.
Opened it to smell and see if I could catch a play doh odor...I can't. (even with the power of suggestion)
I wonder if adding marshmallow or bavarian cream would help you ?

I don't make my flavors strong.
I mix in a 100ml bottle and use 1ml of the VC with 1ml each of a couple of different flavors depending on what I am mixing.

Just a thought, but have you tried TFA Bavarian Cream yet? Bavarian Cream mixed with equal parts CAP Sweet Cream is a pretty close approximation for a custard and quite yummy. About 3% of each should do it. Add 1% INW Shisha Vanilla and you should get a decent Vanilla Custard.

Also there is the new VT Pudding Base to be considered. I have a bottle here but I just received it this week and haven't tried it yet. It's got lots of good press though so I have high hopes. :)

Thanks ceeceeisme and classwife, I'll give it a try. And I don't know what the VT stands for in "VT Pudding Base". Could you give me a hint :)

Classwife, like you I don't over do it on the flavor percentages. It has to be me because as soon as I open the bottle I go back to my childhood Play Doh days.

VT = Vape Train (from Australia). Bull City has them, I believe.

Also, I was thinking maybe you could try Inawera Custard with Shisha Vanilla to get yourself to your custardy happy place. Mind you, if you find all custards to have the Play-Doh effect that one may be the same way. I love me some CAP's Vanilla Custard so I really can't relate to the taste your getting.

Thanks dc99, I threw the one mix into the back of my cabinet after I read your first response. We'll see if I can hold out 30 days.

ceeceeisme, I appreciate the hint ;), I'll check it out. I've been mixing for a long time and I just can't get any mix I like using vanilla custard. I buy from BCF all the time so I'll drop some in my cart and give it a try.

Hi @Marc411,

I find myself in a similar boat. I haven't been real hip with TFA-VC, CAP-VC1 & 2, or FA-Custard. They all seem to have an off funk to them. Then, after reading a couple of @dobroeutro's posts about INW-Custard, I gave that a try. I did a +/- 120 day side-by-side trial along with both CAPs (V1 & V2).

I did all three as stand-alones. I tasted a various intervals, starting at freshly mixed, and then weekly for the first month. Then every couple of weeks thereafter.

The short version is; that the INW-Custard was vapeable right out of the gate. It was a little thin to begin with but didn't have that dirty sock/barf reminder. It continued to fill out and get richer; but never as rich as CAP-V1 (but the V1 always retained some of the funk... it got better; but never completely disappeared). The V2 was thinner (more like the INW), but had less funk than V1 (though more than INW).

Inawera Custard has become my go-to custard now. INW-Creme' Brulee is also a good custard if you want/don't mind a caramel/caramelized sugar note in the recipe.

I have no idea if it will fit your palate; but it might be worth a sample size to see. :D

I would also second @ceeceeisme's recommendation of INW-Vanilla Shisha as a good vanilla booster. Usually 1%, or less, is all that is needed.

I am afraid the corn starch and xanthan gum are deal breakers for me.:(

Maybe it's just me. I use the Cap V1 but it's just off and the TFA is even further off.
Not just you. They taste plastic to me. INW Custard is good, but not eggy. To me FA Merengue (sp?) is eggy big time, but isn't for lots of peeps. So it might be something to try or not. I mix the inw custard with inw vanilla cream, maybe some marshmallow.
