I picked up some of the INW Custard and Creme' Brulee, I'll give them a try and see how it goes, crossing my fingers since I really want a good custard.

@Marc411, I just saw your post in the recipe sub, regarding the Orange Dream Bar recipe. Your comments on subbing remind me of another custard "substitute" you might look at. It is TFA's Vanilla Swirl. TFA describes it as:

I never really thought of this as a "true" custard; as it does lack some of the tick/heavy body of the more popular custard concentrates. But, I still find it a very useful creamy vanilla, that mixes well with most everything I have tried it with.

@IDJoel, I use Vanilla Swirl all the time, it's a staple in my flavor cabinet but I don't get custard out of it at all either, but it doesn't taste like Play Doh

It is a good cream base!

I use vanilla swirl often and find no resemblance to a custard but it is a very good rendition of soft serve ice cream . I tried mixing it with a custard to loosen it up, but custard notes were still there. LB vanilla ice cream would be a better pairing with custard to retain the texture and add a vanilla note imo.

Out of the two suggested I am real hopeful with the Creme' Brulee IDJoel thought was a good option hits the spot.
