A Vmod user here... Nice review... My only comments concerning your leakage issues are as follows.... Leakage at the atty or carto is generally caused by over tightening the cone (which it appears you are not doing) or a wet/dirty upper gasket and or atty/carto... Make sure that the upper gasket is clean and dry when assembling the Vmod as well as the atty/carto... Having a good seal should keep the juice from getting up on the atty/carto...
One other possibility could be the cone itself even though you apparently are not over tightening there has been some inconsistency in the cones themselves... That inconsistency being that some are longer than others at the threads... If this is the case this would cause more or less a pressure blow out caused by the end of the cone putting to much pressure on the upper gasket even with minimal tightening... Quick fix being just to sand, file, grind maybe a mm off the end of the thread part maybe more or less.... Secondary fix could be a really flat rubber washer/o-ring that fits on the base of the cone above the threads found in a faucet valve seal replacement seal kit from lowes or where ever.... Not sure on the size of the o-ring but it has been mentioned in the "fan" thread...

Edit.... You may have an overfeeding issue going on as well...A heavily saturated carto as well as the leakage would be an indicator... If that seal is not clean the excessive juice will end up some where....

Nice review, I agree with your assessment and I wanted so much to like it. I had one and sold it for most of the reasons you mentioned. It is a slick device and felt great in my hand, but anything that takes 4 proprietary gaskets, proprietary atomizers, and proprietary bottles and still leaks wasn't worth it to me. The atomizers were great for about 4-5 days and then became worthless. When I soaked my 1.5s in PGA after they tightened up, all the wicking got loose because they use so little wire around them. The 1.5s only have three coils of very thin wire and lots of exposed wick. Inhaling bits of broken off fiberglass silica wick is probably not a good thing.
These would be absolutely fantastic if they just had a normal tube fed bottom feeder and didn't require proprietary everything. The bottles have a really tiny opening that makes it hard to refill with some juice bottle tips.

I have tried almost every variation with this device. I've used the new rings, the old rings, the new gasket with old rings and vice versa. It's just TOO finicky for me to love the vapor and flavor over. It's a weird thing to say right? We are all looking for a device that gives us amazing flavor and vape out of our juices. Here is one right here!!! But... if it's a headache to even use (and I know a lot of people have it down right), then I can't really give it 5 unicorn horns (totally arbitrary system).
Instead, I am using it as a desk PV, because if it floods on my desk... I can just put it down and use something else. On the go... it's way to fickle for me to rely on as my all day PV.
