"For those of us old enough to remember when smoking ban advocates cited real evidence, the current movement to ban vaping confirms what we suspected all along: That this isn't about protecting people, it's about controlling them, and that empirical research is relevant only to the extent that it helps the political cause."

Interesting...

"We've had people coming in our gymnasiums when their kid are playing, smoking these things," said Mayor Becky Tooley. "I don't want somebody going to a ball game sitting in the bleachers and having that blow in their face. These people think they can just light it up because it isn't a cigarette."

Coconut Creek isn't alone. In January, Delray Beach passed an ordinance that limited e-cigarette use the same way that tobacco use is prohibited in public places.

Coconut Creek Commissioner Sandra Welch said her "reality check" was when she saw a grandfather puffing on an e-cigarette — inside an elementary school.

You mean like 'CASH' caramel?

Really this is nothing about helping or even controlling folks, those are side effects or diversions from the effort to shed them of their money. Not even being the cause of deaths will sway them in their mission to maintain.

Being the bringer of death in mmorpg is one thing but these folks are dealing the real cards here. I wonder if they grew up on video games? Dang should have banned them before we got to this point.

Vaping in inappropriate places is the moral of the story...

Exactly. Regardless of whether it's harmful or not, I don't want people (including me) vaping in movie theaters, restaurants, or almost anywhere else indoors. I also wouldn't want people vaping in bleachers outdoors (i.e. watching a ball game.)

No real explanation on what makes for inappropriate.

Makes for an inappropriate point in a discussion.

Oh, that's right, they (and you) don't care to discuss this.

Which is why I (and others) don't care about their silly policies.

Catch me if you can.

there is no inappropriate place to vape.
over time social custom will dictate what
is and,what is not appropriate.
there need be no laws or regulations
mandating social custom.

Social norms have obviously dictated it is not appropriate to vape everywhere, hence the legislation. That won't change given the way the country has been going...

there have not been any social norms dictated towards vaping.
there have been social norms mandated against smoking and,
in some places vaping.
we can work it out ourselves. there is no need for force of law.

In the US, it appears smoking and vaping are seen as the same; that is the social norm, hence the legislation and proposed legislation.
When I first started vaping, I envisioned vaping as free and unfettered, socially acceptable everywhere. That turned out to be a pipe dream in the US...

Can we agree that vaping isn't smoking?

Given that it isn't there is no way on earth that we should expect vapers to be bound by the same regulations as smokers.

Banning vaping seems very foolish. Why drive people back to tobacco if you genuinely wish people to give up tobacco?

There are many reasons why people would wish to ban vaping, ranging from priggishness through to revenue generation. Imho those views do not bear scrutiny.

If I read one more post that says that vapers should go to the places where smokers go and not vape in the places where smokers can't smoke...I shall be saddened.

ANTZ will never agree. They make a living from "fighting smoking" (or "tobacco control" or whatever you want to call it). If they don't include vaping in their job descriptions, they could soon find themselves out of a job.

Don't forget that there are people who made a life long career out of it. Some of them would have no job alternatives but McDo burger flipper and Wally associate. They see vaping like an ominous pulling the rug from under their feet. They will fight nails and teeth to keep it there.
