I hear your point. Don't know if it was necessarily a kid that took it considering it was in the door. Really just think someone saw me unlock the car and walk away.
I’m not saying a kid took it. I’m saying a kid will probably wind up with it. They’re the ones willing to pay near retail for hot merch.

Sad, maybe need a thrift vape-store somewhere? ;)

I had an beaten up AJS (or was it a BSA uhm...) motorbike many decades ago, a beast, it leaked oil like a sinking tanker. I used to chain it to a lampost outside, one morning I went to ride to work and found someone had stolen the chain and padlock and left the bike. An insult from a thief eh!

The majority of thieves are junkies. They don’t want objects they want money, or object they can turn into money. Things that look nice. I’ve seen people with really expensive bicycles do things like deliberately scrape off the paint and logos and roll the things in wet concrete to make them permanently dirty in an effort to dissuade thieves. Luckily you don’t have to go around leaving your device on a public street corner.

No, the moral of the story is lock your car door I'm afraid, like all the time.

I go one better, I have a car that drives great, it's beaten and battered I NEVER do body work not because I am afraid to or can't afford it, I wash it once a year if someone like, wants to borrow it and I leave random trash, flotsam and jetsam all OVER a bit. No respectable thief is going to touch my car with a 10 foot pole.. You probably look decent enough to steal from. I sort of try to make sure I don't. ALWAYS.

No lie, I have left my keys in the apartment door and either there is little foot traffic but no one has EVEN bothered to open the door I don't think.

They have seen my car. LOL.

But I'm sorry for your loss and it sucks.

Anna
So what your saying is the moral is leave my car a hot mess and never bring the carts back. Lol.

That was my MO before I got the Mustang. I used to leave the keys in the Pinto, window down. I swear you couldn’t pay someone to steal that thing. More than once someone threw change on the driver’s seat.

I hear ya. I leave NOTHING in my Mustang. Even keep her locked up when she's parked in my garage.

Why do you say "being a decent person sucks"? Decent folks are still cool.
Being a criminal sucks. A decent person would not have ripped off your vape.

Like others said, vape gear is the new cigarettes and you can't just leave 'em laying around these days.
I meant decent because I put the cart back. Always do too. My windows are heavily tinted and the vape wad inn the door. I mean a few moments to put the cart back didn't seem so bad. But I've learned the hard way here. And yes thieves do suck. I hope they get terrible flavor from my diy grape mix.

No... you can put your cart back. I do. Just, lock your car first.

And well the hot mess is up to you. Since I tend to hit stuff like those giant posts or dumpsters or whatnot (with a new car, I got no spatial awareness at low speeds) and since I live in my car a lot of the time these days, well, I turn it into an asset. You know, a few diet pepsi bottles and random paper floating around.

This is gonna work for me until I get pulled over and I have to try and find my registration and insurance. LOL. I THINK they are in the middle console, but that's a speculative guess, etc.

Keep putting the cart back. Kharma is a two way street.

I used to leave my vehicles unlocked with stuff on the seat in plain view. I knew if they wanted it I'd not only be out said item but I'd have all that broken glass to cleanup.

Kleptos aren't above the smash n grab too, so one day while filing a police report the cop showed me a few items that were not taken that might be at another time.

A smash n grab thief stole a $99 tablet that was in plain view but missed a $3500 camera that was covered with a towel.

I just keep stuff out of view now. Example is placing the mod under the seat while taking the cart back. Heck, just yesterday I flipped my gloves on the dash over so the Carhardt logo was not showing while I was inside a drug store.

Yes, but I think what she did happens everywhere. Nowadays I buy on the internet and gets delivered to my place, but back not so long ago I did exactly the same. I never EVER would have imagined to lock the car's doors to take the cart back to the storage.

In Argentina vaping is becoming fashionable. Don't matter if you don't smoke, being seen with a mean vape (Vgod is all the rage) and you're in. And people are discovering the AIO, and my BB (even in it's humblest of configurations) gets a lot of looks. Not sold locally, so it would be easy to snatch.

I don't lock my vehicle (it's not steal worthy anyway.. lol) and I regularly leave my vape in the car when I shop.

If it's a nicer mod I'll make an effort that it's not easily seen but most the time I just leave it in the open.

After vaping almost 5 years I've never had a mod stolen - knock on wood.

My thought process has always been if someone is willing to steal from me they need it worse than I do.

I live in a small tiny town and it's small town life, I hope it continues the way it has. It is sad when people steal. It shows lack of character because if someone needed a mod or vape gear I would give them one, as I'm sure any of us would.

The only time my vehicle was ever broken into was when I worked (off campus) at Johns Hopkins in East Baltimore, and I was late, and I parked my car on the street that everyone said never to park on (for reals, it was the worst street) and I did not realize my son's Gameboy or whatever was in the back seat. But, they also stole my parking change. I think they would have possibly gone for my radio but that was too much work, LOL.

I received much "counseling" from my clients that day, indicating I had "invited" my crime. I must say, I had to agree with them. I was not even that upset, although when one of my clients stated he was bored, I did invite him to go find my missing Gameboy, only to hastily retract that because it probably would have invited a relapse. LOL.

I have found the mantra "I am safe, I am always safe" to be of use in my life. I mean, I take reasonable precautions, etc. but I just make sure I am "Alright with myself and willing to die," kind of thing.

Of course, my ex husband, the one who repeatedly threatened my life (via my kid as in, "Kid if you tell your mom I have relapsed I will send my illegal workers to go kill your mom and stepdad", has been sending me cryptic texts and stuff asking for weird information about me like my mother's maiden name for a PASSPORT? I don't think that's necessary for a passport honestly he also says he is out in Texas someplace and planning to "leave the country and never come back."

I am feeling extraordinarily odd about the whole thing because I called him, he got my message but says he has "bad cell service" and other oddness. I am going to have to tell the KID too, to not call him just now until I figure this out,

I've always found it's the ones you know that just, can hurt you the most. I was all in tears on the way home, mainly because whenever my ex does stuff like this, it makes me remember the time when my ex and I were genuinely happy and he was not firmly fixed into antisocialness, etc., and I was just getting these texts and going "Oh, God."

I am going to have the husband call him, I'm TIRED of it . I always thought I got the good end of the deal, because I decided to be a decent parent and human being, like, and my ex just couldn't. I got the love and devotion of the kid, and I was like, "there is nothing better than that."

But every now and then I get reminded of all the misery. And when I look at my kid and see what my ex COULD have been like with decent parents? He's probably off his meds too. Sigh.

I have prayed for nothing but happiness for the ex for many decades. But he sure can be a pain, and it doesn't seem to be catching.

I will take losing a jillion possessions over stuff like this. I'm too softhearted, that is why the husband will be calling, because he is reasonable he is going to say, "you can send the letter to your mom, and if your biology ever wants it, he can ask HER." LOL, he's so smart. Sigh,.
