I'm only half hour from there so I am going. Being relatively new to vaping it's a good chance to see what's available and meet some fellow vapers.

You are safe in the suburbs, where the event actually is. Unless of course someone loses too much at the new casino down the street. LOL.

Seriously though the area is safe. It's near O'hare airport. Many venues around there and never a major issue that I know of.
