This is a DIY project I did. It's something I've thought about for awhile and while it's not practical for something to take with you, it's still a good conversation piece and pretty cool from a nostalgic point of view.
I'm using the OKL-T/20 chip (think hexohm v2) and dual 18650 batteries. The batteries are entered into the bottom of the device due to room constraints. I used the original atari 2600 joystick button by cutting the PCB out and soldering to the traces and replaced the old spring with standard 22 gauge kanthal wire. It's sensitive and works really good. It also rips pretty good too. The parts list can be seen at:
