My mother-in-law had to have a very serious surgery today so we were all there at the hospital. My hubby and I were the only ones that had been smokers. Actually the hubby is still a smoker. Anyway, I spent last nite teaching the hubby the fine art of stealth vaping. He was a very fast learner. We were able to sit in the waiting room all day and stealth vape without anyone, even some of the family realizing what we were doing! It was great. We are both disabled and it is very hard for us to get up and go find somewhere to smoke so this was a dream come true for us.

Lesson to learn from this: Don't be an all in their faces vaper, be discreet and things will eventually work out for all of us. If we don't quit trying to make everyone excpet us all at once we are going to do nothing but alienate everyone. Be discrete, if someone sees you and questions you about it don't be afraid to explain it and what it does and point people in the right direction to learn about ecigs the proper way. Don't force them to accept you, that is a losing battle.

nice one Jules!

my dad has lung cancer... its actually quite strange that i decided to quit smoking after 15 years 3 days before i found out.
dads been smoking for around 35 years now and naturally you can imagine how hard it is to give up. its not so much the nicotine but the habit.
anyway, the only real way to get him to stop was to try the ecig (still would never recommend it to someone with cancer but if it wasnt that it was the ciggies) the good thing is he had vg with no nicotine and most of the time wasnt even inahling. so he pretty much gave up the ciggies straight away.

2 weeks ago a day before his surgery we went to the hospital for his pre op check-up and whilst waiting for his blood test pulls out his e-pipe and starts billowing the smoke (man those things produce good vapour)
anyway the doc comes up behind him with the utmost astonished look on his face saying... "u cant smoke here?!?!"
my dads starts saying but its not a cigarette? look! its just steam like when open a hot pot of soup! (meanwhile i couldnt stop crackin up..)
the docs look turned curious and he started examining it and said this is truely amazing... i explained what it was and what the ingredients were and he was quite impressed.
so after the surgery while he was recovering my dads lying there on his hospital bed with an e-pipe in his mouth (being very careful not to even inhale) while doctors and nurses walked in and out... apparently no one had a problem with it!
And this is in Australia!
My dad who i love with all my life thankfully is recovering well (half of his lung had to be removed) and thankfully he hasnt touched a analog in over a month....

First let me say you and your father are in my prayers and I wish him a speedy, and lasting recovery.

Second, isn't it great when you find out your doc actually likes your ecig? I know my regular doc and my cardiologist both think they are great. My regular doc has ordered some of the disposables ones to give to patients. It is going to be a hard fight for the ecig to win over but we can do it if we do it the right way.

+1 on the docs liking the PVs...

I've had epilepsy since about 13 or 14 years old I think is when the onset came in.

I started smoking around 16 years old - yes to fit in with my first GF of course. My various Neurologists have all told me that there are various chemicals in cigarettes that - if I were to quit smoking - would make controlling my seizures much easier.

Well, they were absolutley right. Although with medication I have been very lucky and led a mostly normal life for I'd say the last 10 years or so... the last 2 have been AMAZING. I had actually forgotten how good my reflexes were, my general awareness of the world around me. It's rather insane when I stop and think about it, and the reduction in seizure frequency to basically ZERO is well, just awesome with less than half the medication I had to take before.

My current Neurologist asked me if I had quit, etc. some time back and I showed him my original Pen Style from NJoy at the time and he loved it. We must have talked for 2 hours about it and he told me he was going to order one for his neice. He even took mine all apart and looked at the cart, etc. and just kept shaking his head and saying how he wished these would have come along so much sooner and why in the world were we not hearing about them in the news?

Anyway, sorry so long. Take care all, and glad to know everyone is still doing ok.

Hap,

I am glad to hear that vaping has really helped with your seizures. You saying that reminds me that I have an online friend in Arizona that is going to get an email about ecigs. I hope things keep going great for you!

Very good story. I can imagine that it would be harder for disabled people to have to walk all over creation to try to find a smoking area, so you handled your situation in a perfect way with the whole stealth vaping thing.

The hospital we were at, we would have had to go to the parking garage and to our car to sit and have a smoke. And trust me, we weren't parked that close, lol It really is hard for disabaled people to find a place and get to it in order to curb the cigarette monster. My hubby had to have a knee replacement in September. That hospital actually had people with little yellow vest that said "Smoking Patrol" that did nothing but walk around and stop people from smoking. You couldnt even smoke in the parking garage or the Smoking Patrol would get you. Being on crutches, with it raining really made for a fun day walking 100 yards from the hospital property to have a cigarette.

Not being able to walk without crutches really made it difficult sometimes. My in-laws don't smoke so you would have to go outside, and down some stairs to smoke. I would usually just stay inside and jones for a smoke. Now I get to laugh at the others that have to go outside because my mother-in-law lets me sit in the recliner (she chases whoever is sitting in the recliner out of it when I get there) and vape away. Yes, I'm spoiled, lol Vaping is great. I just hope the message can get out there and we can get it going so that we are not made to feel like outcasts anymore.

My prayers to all in need.

I vaped at the hospital today and no one was any the wiser. Short, discreet drags and I was good to go. I also vaped pure JC TN cured and I get very, very little vapor upon exhale. Now I feel comfortable enough to vape on my international flight next month! :)

Thanks for the prayers. I never turn down free prayers, lol

Be sure to not use a battery mod. To me they look like a bomb detonator, lol I haven't gotten the nerve up to use a batt mod in public yet,lol

Oh wow, they have smoking nazis on patrol? Around here, this being a small town type of area, they just have signs that say "No smoking beyond this point" at certain places. But in other places, you can smoke right outside the door of a place, since there are ash trays there.

I had to go to the hospital a couple of months ago because of an incident with my grandmother, and people were smoking outside of the place with no problem. Some people would step away from the door a little ways, but then others would be right by the door. They didn't have any type of security to stop people at all. Guess it all depends on where you are from and what the laws are.

For most able bodied people, I would just say to go outside or to wait until you are done, but I totally understand in the situation of disabled people.
