In my opinion, if a renter moves into a no smoking/no pets building they would be expected to live by those standards. Fact is though, even in buildings like this, folks may and do have cats and dogs.

I think having a cat or dog would be much easier to prove by someone, than I think my neighbour is vaping, good luck proving that in a court of law.

Your landlord probably wants to have a no smoking building overall, to attract more non-smoking tenants,
a lot of folks hate the smell of smoke so this is a selling point.

Whether vapes and cigs are grouped together as far as the law goes I can't say, it seems to be a regional or a town bylaw that you'll have to look into.

Even if you are sitting on a balcony puffing clouds and you are spotted you may still be within your rights as you are not inside.

It is very, very difficult to have a tenant evicted, it sounds like you are a good tenant, I doubt your landlord has this in mind by changing the lease details. He is doing it to make the place more attractive to non-smoking tenant$. imo. Cheers.

After helping out my landlord by switching the last few smokers to ecigs, I found out
that all of his new renovated apartments will have ecigs banned. I will eventually have
to move to one. Is this even legal? I'm in BC, I haven't heard of a law about this here...

There doesn't have to be a law. Landlords can put reasonable restrictions into their leasing contracts. Vancouver has already set a precedent by banning vaping in public housing.

Contact your landlord and educate him. With the proper materials, he may decide to leave that restriction out.

Advice like that will get vaping banned outright. Banning personal vaporizers in ones living space is about a reasonable as banning hot showers or cooking. How about mentholyptus rubs or Vicks room vaporizers. A fog machine for that Halloween party? Unenforceable, at best. Unlawful at worst.

What Zurd and fishj said. I'm as law abiding as the next guy (provided you're law abiding :) ). I follow the rules and play nice in the sand box, but in the privacy of my own home (even if rented) I would vape. Really, who would know, unless you vaped clouds of fog to rival London's (England) fog in winter, or in plain sight on your balcony.
