Hi All,

I am actually asking for, rather than providing, a list of all the known countries where ecigs are banned. Whenever I think that things are starting to settle down and the governments of the world have stopped their silly, not to mention irrational, knee-jerk reactions to ecigs, along comes another ban or more enforcement of secondary laws (e.g. laws about poison importation.. another way for the (Un)Health agencies to stop ecigs/nicotine at the border) that seemingly comes out of left field.

When these seemingly random events occcur, much discussion follows and I found out that there is more countries that have already banned the ecig than I knew previously. So it would be nice if there was a quick list of countries where it is banned, updated by someone or people who know.

If there is one already, I couldn't find it.. so please, can someone make such a list?

Probably there will never be a "list" as such.

The thing is, most places I know of haven't banned them outright. (Which would be hard to do in any case, given the availability of a lot of the components...)

Some places restrict nicotine, or allow ecig sale only nic-free.

Other don't allow import. (Stop'em at the border.)

Some places have sales restrictions/bans. (I'm in Korea, where apparently online sales are restricted. But you can by things OTC or "call and buy.")

Each place, both legality and illegality have slightly different meanings.

Best,

I am not sure if there is an actual list but if you look up Electronic Cigarettes on Wikipedia there is a list of countries and there current regulations. Here is the link: Electronic cigarette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I know its not the the best research tool but hopefully it will help somewhat:)

As a British ex-pat living in Oz, this is an invaluable thread. When I travel home, it's great to stop off at various countries along the way and it's good to now know that when I visit my sis in Singapore I must be careful. I refuse to be forced to quit my e cig by some nanny state, wherever it may be, so long as they are selling cigarettes there. (More vigilance in some countries is an obvious requirement!). I was thinking of a trip to Thailand for Xmas/New Year, but, illegal to use??? I guess the little old white battery KR808D is a blessing in a (not so much) disguise!
I agree with the OP light487 that this list is needed, so much so that perhaps a sticky could be made somewhere.

Greetings!! So what actually IS the law with regards to Australia and where can I find out? I'm leaving next friday for a 1 week business trip to Sydney. Can I take my ecig and nic juices? I was thinking about carrying them with me in my carry on luggage (not using it on the plane - but transporting it with me). I have a seen a couple videos or news clips from AUS saying there are fines up to $8000 for possession?

I'd hate to take stuff with me only to have it confiscated and be fined for it... and I'd rather not have to start smoking again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you send a PM (Private Message) to Clark8876. He lives down under. I'm sure he can answer any questions you might have. Be sure to take warm clothes with you. It's winter down there.

Why not just ask in the Australia forum? :)

Anyway.. there is no such $8000 fine.. well technically there is but we're talking about large quantities (manufacturer level quantities) of the stuff.. you know.. gallons/litres of the stuff. In Victoria there is "apparently" a ban on the devices but I know many vapers down there are importing and using without any problems at all. NSW is probably the safest of the states at this point but in saying that, the only state where customs siezures have occurred are in QLD and that has stopped now that a few politely worded letters have been sent to government officials... in fact the person behind the siezures has been fired from her job, most likely nothing to do with this.

I've gone in and out of the country myself without any trouble; and also flown domestically between Sydney and Brisbane without any trouble. I store the bulk of my stuff in my cargo luggage and the "currently in use" stuff in my carry-on or pockets. Never had any problems.

I walk around in public vaping away happily and while I might geta few weird looks, usually while I am using my red-tinted liquinator, I have never been confronted by anyone.. much less confronted by the police. Just be discreet and you will be fine.
