My guess is that most OTC hydrocortisone creams such as "Cortisone 10" would likely work as well, I've just never tried them. If I'm running low, I will just ask a doctor during any visit to give me a script for it. Have never had one even batt an eye before prescribing it.

Carless, that is interesting info. To bad it's script only. I can't remember the last time I got a cold sore, but I do remember how aggravating they were/are for those that get them. I'd certainly try to get a script if I had that issue frequently. I do recall the feeling you're talking about and will copy and paste your post for future reference or to give to anyone that I run across that has an ongoing issue.

I used to get cold sores every two months or so, but as another poster suggested, by taking an l-lysine supplement daily I do not get any. The best one is Solaray's Lips So Healthy (it has Reishi mushmooms and Japanese knotweed amongst other things), but SuperLysine+ works well too. This doesn't help so much with an active cold sore, but when I take a supplemental daily I do not get them, no matter how stressed out I am.

I used to have tons of them... I mean TONS of them. I would get one 1 month, it would last for about two weeks, then the next month I would get another.

Now in the past few years I have went from having about 10 a year, to having maybe 1 that lasts for a day. Since I started vaping again i have had 1 start popping up, but killed it before it had a chance. I have only started vaping a week ago, and my last one was over a year ago, so it might just be a coincidence. Now that being said, I will reveal how I got rid of them plaguing my life. I also made my mother try this (she has allot also, and I suspect she is the one that passed down the virus to me, yet I still love her very much :p ) and she has had the same results.

I would like to point out that I am not a doctor, and that my solution might not work for you but has worked for tons of people. Got information on how to get rid of them after lurking on forums for several months (It was that bad). Do what you wish with this information, I am in no way encouraging anyone to do this, just giving you info on what helped me. Here is how I did it :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electricity anyone? Yep, after lurking on cold sore forums, and seeing what type of devices/cream were coming from cold sore specialists I figured (well people helped me figure it out) that the best solution to cold sores aren't the creams... it's electricity.

Basically, when you electrocute the region where the cold sore is, what you are doing is actually destroying the barrier (outer containment ring) of the virus. And since it no longer has it's external barrier and is weakened the body has no problem getting rid of it. I have seen on some sites(I will try and find a link) that most of the time after electrocuting the cold sore virus, the body doesn't even have to try it fight it since it will most likely just dissipate on it's own.

Now I know this may sound painful, but believe me it isn't. You don't plug yourself on 120v to do this. A 5 volts battery will do the job. Although I personally prefer using something a bit higher (around 8-12 volts) just to be sure it goes away, FAST!
Also take in consideration you are applying this yourself, so as soon as you start feeling some pain or tickling you just stop, wait a few seconds and then start again.
Now they sell these cold sore electrocuting units on the web, but they are expensive. I saw some people taping small electric cables to 5 v batteries. Which seem to be a pain to do, and you also never really know how much juice is left in the battery if it's not a rechargeable one. I myself use a self-made power supply I made when i was in electrical engineering. Now that being said, you can buy a small power supply at just about any electric/home and garden store out there and they sell for like 20$. You plug in two small electric wires, set it at about 5-10 volts and then apply both the negative and positive wire on each side of the infected area for I'd say about 10 seconds at a time, twice a day. Although you might not have the same effect, in my case when doing this the cold sore lasts 1 day or less, and I am getting them less and less frequently. Another fun thing to note is that as soon as I do electrocute one, the burning sensation immediately goes away, leading to touching it less, and not spreading the infection any further.

Like sea said, you could also just take a daily dose of l-lysine, which seems to work for a whole lot of people . But I figure it will probably cost allot more in the long run. Still a nice option to have.

I normally only get a cold sore when I get really sick. Since I started vaping almost 4 weeks ago I've gotten TWO cold sores. The first one just went away, and the next day a new one popped up. Anyone else have a similar experience, or ever heard of vaping causing this side effect??

Thanks.

Cold sores are a lifetime virus. Cold sores can be triggered by stress and certain foods. Although it's unlikely caused by the PV, it could be from the stress of not smoking tobacco perhaps.

If you are referring to canker sores-which people often confuse with the term cold sores, then canker sores after quitting tobacco smoke are usually due to your mouth's tissue healing from the effect of hot smouldering smoke passing through frequently.

Take vitamins, drink lots of water, meditate, relax, and take care of yourself.

Might be something to it. I vape 50/50 or > % VG juice. Haven't been ill/sick for at least 6 years. Started getting a cold sore alittle more than a week ago. Soon as I detected it I coated the area with a Q-tip saturated with camphor oil. This treatment has taken care of the cold sores I've had for 66 years. That puppy started to heal up, then broke out again. Took me more than a week to get over that sore. Don't know if it's the vapin or not. But, that's the only thing I'm doin different now than before. JMHO

Cheers,

cold sores are herpes. in other words if you dont have herpes you must have contracted it from someone using your pv or drinking from the same bottle, kissing, etc. and dont forget they are different than cankersores which only happen inside your mouth, herpes/cold sores are generally on or around the lips.

Well... cold sores are herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) and genital herpes are herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2). HSV-1 is usually acquired during childhood but occasionally sexually transmitted. With how common cold sores are, it would be rare for a person to have active outbreaks of HSV-1 from sharing a PV or water bottle in adulthood. The majority of people have already been exposed...
