I have. I was in a private room though and asked the nurses and doctor first if they could check their policy. Once I explained what it was and demonstrated, they let me do it but only in the room. I was there for 10 days so I kinda needed to do something. I'm sure it depends on the hospital and this was in Canada but it has been done. I even convinced two nurses to quit smoking and start vaping!!

I would do as Lola recommended..ask them first if it's okay. If you're NOT going to be bed-ridden, and don't want to run the risk that they'll say NO, I'd just hit the bathroom and vape in there.

And, even if you ARE stuck in bed, try something 'discreet' like an Ego or a mod that doesn't light up like a disco ball. Use a liquid that's 100% PG and hold your breath for a few extra seconds and you won't get any exhaled vapor!

Good luck and hope you're going to be okay!!

Outstanding…

This is Exactly what a responsible person should do. It also goes miles to promoting e-Cigs as a good thing and not something that should be banned.

I've had to twice now when my husband was in the hospital in April/May. The first time, we talked to both the nurses and the doctor about it and they said it was OK. I showed them the PV and explained all that was in the liquids. They had me demonstrate and gave their OK. Even wrote the OK in his chart.

The second time was really a horrible experience overall so it was more stealth even though it was the same hospital, just a different floor with different nurses and doctors. It really was a horrible stay so I didn't even bother. They left us alone other than the normal stuff, when they bothered, and he was at the end of the hall. It wasn't a problem.

Thanks. Its actually the wife thats incarcerated. I say incarcerated cuz shes been in since May6th and it feels like a jail sentence. We are hoping this week she gets out. She's ready to go home. :D

Thanks for the well wishes!!

Oh, I hope she does get to get out this week. My husband was in for a week each time and by the end of both, he was climbing the walls it seemed like.

I just spent 4 days with hubby while he was in UVA's hospital for surgery to repair a Aortic Dissection. The 2 days he was in ICU I rarely used it in the room, but it wasn't an issue since I wasn't in there for more than an hour at a time and I spent a lot of time in the courtyard outside the cafeteria vaping my head off. Once he was in a regular room I vaped like crazy and just stopped when I heard nurses coming in. I'm pretty sure they knew though, because I told all of them that I had quit smoking using the e-cig and pretty much never left the room. Plus, I left them plugged in and sitting on the table beside my chair by his bed. I told the guy sharing a room with him about them because he was talking about his wife needing to either quit or having to go outside once he went home. He had no problem with me vaping in the room and I'm hoping his wife uses the info I gave him to find us here. I've never been so glad to have switched to vaping as I was that week. I didn't want to leave him for a second after coming so close to losing him (they said the tear was within 1 mm of his heart and if it had hit his heart he would have just dropped dead instead of collapsing and being helicoptered to UVA for surgery) and I would have been even more nuts if I would have had to either have nic fits or go down 4 floors and then walk a couple of blocks to get somewhere that I could smoke.

My sis in law also recently had surgery and her nurses and doctors had no problem with her smoking in the room in the hospital she was in in Roanoke, VA. The great thing is that every nurse and doctor that we tell about the wonderfulness of e-cigs could end up helping tons of other people that they could pass the word to. I keep hoping that all of the ones I talked to end up researching them and passing the info along.

I really hope your husband is better and really glad they were able to fix it and that it was not as they said the worse would have been.

I agree that telling nurses and doctors helps greatly. I heard the nurses we had the first stay talking about them. I also told my doctors assistant who smokes and gave her the link to this forum. I can't wait to go back and find out if she has been here and has switched. My doctor was not as receptive though. Again, during the first stay, the Doctor asked a lot of questions and I demoed it and he approved it. The more we educate, the more this will become acceptable. Education is the key though.
