I'm a nurse and a vaper.
I vape all the time in the hospital discreetly in the bathroom or wherever I feel like it if no one is around. I mean....who is going to know??? There is no smell, no smoke and no mess.
Just keep one in your pocket (or bra, ha ha) and do it.
I do not do it in the presence of anyone because I just don't want the hassel of talking about it...explaining it.....etc.
Don't ask - Don't tell !!

Hey Joanna, I hear ya on the vaping in the restroom, been doing it to, he he! I just have to make sure I'm not to close to the ceiling sprinkler!! Although I have learned that some flavored juice does have a little scent left behind, like the coffee so I leave those at home.

The closer Nationalized Health Care gets the more things you'll see happening. Get ready for fast food to be regulated to the point where everything they sell has to meet guidelines for fat and sugar content. If the item doesn't meet the criteria, it will probably have a 100% tax on it to cover increased health care costs.

Get ready for the $9 Big Mac and $4 Fries (Combo $12.99).

OH Here in NY we already have the fat tax....on sodas...or at least I think it passed...maybe someone in our wonderful capitol of Albany realized what they were doing but I doubt it. and cigarette tax was recently raised in NY to something like 4.50 a pack making the cost of a pack of cigs 10$ or more....god I love governor paterson.

I used to work at a hospital (it closed down). I would guess that at the time about 75% of the workers smoked. The only people allowed to smoke inside were the doctors who were on call for the emergency room. (they also drank, which kinda ...... me off). I have gotten a few nurses and Home Health Care Workers converted to E-Cigs.

The nearest hospital is now 60 miles away. They don't allow any smoking on their grounds. So when your stressed the fork out worried to death about your loved one and waiting for hours to hear what is going on, you have to take a drive around the block to get your fix. Yes, you can't even smoke in your car in the parking lot.

Are the admins nuts?

Years ago when I was restoring Victorian houses a buddy of mine had his knee lock up (he was an olympic pole vaulter). I picked him up and carried him to the truck and took him to the emergency room. Six hours later, he was dying for a smoke so I got a wheel chair and had to walk him off the property so he could get his fix.

There has got to be a better way.

I am in the IT dept for a chain of hospitals that has somewhat recently adopted a strict no smoking policy across all hospital campuses and affiliated buildings (even the non-clinical ones)

We have been given permission to vape in the non-clinical buildings and outside on hospital grounds. E-cig use is spreading like wildfire here :p

That is a good sign. Especially from a Hospital..

We could get smoking declared a disability (they did it with alcoholism and other drug addictions) Then it would be covered as a discriminatory act based on the disability act

Hmmm ... now there's an idea. Maybe we can work a deal with the government and FDA. Approve e-cigs or we all get together and hire us a good lawyer who will fight to have nicotine addiction declared a disability, just like alcoholism and other drug addictions are considered disabilities. :p

I work at a hospital also. They have a very strick no smoking policy for employees, patients, and family. They will not hire anyone that tests positive for nicotine. Yes, it is included in their new-hire drug screening.

The employees that have "grandfathered" in are encouraged to quit smoking. Our employee health dept will hand out free supplies of patches.

Their policy is a NO NICOTINE policy. So that covers everything - yet they will hand out patches. That's just another way to get your nicotine fix. I know that patches are commonly thought of as a smoking cessation tool, but vaping can also be used as such. Our e-juice comes in graduated step-down strenghts from 35mg - 0mg.

What I'm wondering is if it is worth the hassle to refute the no nicotine policy with vaping. It really is not much different than using the patch. I think I could make a compelling argument that it could be used to quit smoking (and it's tobacco less)

Has anyone had any success with this argument with employers?

Hey I think we work for the same system, I haven't heard of anyone contest it. I've heard thru the rumormills that the policy they had about not being able to smoke on break/lunch times has silently left the building.....so that sounds like they did get some guff over that--yeahh!

I work in a group home and I vape in the office when I'm the only one working and the clients are off doing their own thing. I have one co-worker who tried my pv and liked it. I vape a lot when I work with her =) I'd like to say that it helps me get tons of billing done, because a ton of time is spent in front of the computer...but sadly, I've been spending that time on ECF and doing my billing at home. I gotta get my priorities straight.

I hate places like that. Drozd, for smokers who live in TN, that's pretty funny. Okay, so apply and say nope, sure don't smoke, no sir, not me. Then get hired. Then when they say, "Hey, you lied on your application. You said you didn't smoke!" And reply, "Oh, I didn't when I applied. Hit some bad stress this past week and friend offered me one. Liked it so much I went and bought my own!"
