Vaping in Public like at Tim Hortons

Well, as a rule of thumb , for me at least, if smoking is not permitted then I don't vape unless I can get permission.

I just got my brother in law to start vaping, he getts really stressed on the phone(callcenter) and received permission to vape as long as no one complains.
The minute anyone on the call floor complains about it he will have to stop.

vaping at work is great! Especially while working in a call center (I work in one too but I don't take calls anymore, I'm just the numbers guy)

My boss doesn't mind me using it either. She just doesn't want to see the vapor, however she does seem to like to walk by my desk to sniff and guess my flavour of the day

My boss is a slightly .... ex-smoker and when I asked for his permission to occasionally vape in the lunch room when I was on my break (it was still wet and wintery outside) he asked me to give him some info on electronic cigarettes.

I found a decent website explaining what its all about, how it works and so on and after he read it he was completely ok with it so long as all the other employees I share the lunch room with didn't mind. I had another copy of the info on the table for anyone to read. At first everyone's reaction was "what the, are you smoking?!?!?!?", after I explained what it was it bothered nobody and I almost always vape inside now right beside people who never smoked in their life. I would constantly ask the person next to me if it was bothering them, but even if I blew a cloud of vapor in their direction they only got a light scent of it.

I may look completely silly to my non smoking co-workers while I vape on my reo (looking completely silly isn't that hard for me to do anyway) but the way I see it is that I've given about 25 people in my area a first hand introduction to ecigs who now know there is an alternative to smoking.

True on trying to find the right people for their ok with vaping. Finding the managers of these places is like trying to find a free sales rep for help in home depot - they don't exist when you need them.

What is different is you are vaping as a form of advertisement for personal gain. we vape for personal health. it isn't necessary to vape in many locations that smoking isn't allowed. if we do, it has to be done with respect is all. and if asked to stop, then just stop and explain. if you argue and get heated, like the person first mentioned in the OP, it just gives a negative impact on vapers in general.

there's no reason to vape in a hospital. they have oxygen and our heating elements could cause an explosion. common sense.

Absolutely! For some reason vapers have decided that it is OK, and with all due respect it is not. I have never has a confrontation with the exception of one (which was in a parking lot garden centre). All was cool (after explanation) in this particular case I would have challenged the individual (out in open air) but it wasn't necessary. I have seen vapers brag on video about taking in gas at a gas station. Hello I am sure it is not what we are trying to portrait here.

I do it discreetly, everywhere because I am a slave to nicotine. If I'm in the open I take a hit of air after the vape hold for a sec and nothing much comes out and I blow it off to the side or in my shirt/jacket whatever. I don't care about any of the rest of it. I was a heavy smoker and I am a heavy vaper. After and hour and a half or so shopping in the wally mart and I leave my PV in the car I'm yelling at the kids/GF and totally on edge, hair standing on end and ready to rumble. So maybe I am a maniac but it's much better for people everywhere when I am in public to by soothed by the nic

Since for the most part the general public still do not know what vaping is, i think theres a responsibility on the vapor to have some discretion.(IMHO) If its a restaurant or other privately owned place just ask. Can we educate instead of argue?

Education sometimes comes from arguments. Arguments are a good thing unless they degenerate into silly and unproductive name-calling. This little debate is a good thing.

Personally, I always asked before I vaped in a private establishment. I never had anyone tell me no.

Like many have already said, it's their private establishment. They can refuse service to anyone for any reason, and that includes something you're doing that doesn't match up with their list of ideal activities on their privately-owned property. You could be asked to leave for something as simple as chewing too loudly...doesn't matter. It's their place and they can make you leave if you choose to be disrespectful of their rules.

I think it's much easier for everyone involved if we just ask first. It's up to us to make sure that other people's first impressions of vaping are positive ones.

Ahh but as you know smoking anywhere on hospital grounds is not okay a smoker has to walk a quarter mile to get off hospital grounds in order to have a cigarette, my wife is terminally ill and I am in hospitals a lot and being able to use my PV on the grounds and in the bathroom or in her room is fantastic.The Dr when I asked if I could said sure no problem go ahead I see no problem with you vaping in here. Your comment IMO is a mute point for me vaping on hospital grounds is something vital to me right now. I hate having to leave my wife laying there in the room clinging to life and then I have to walk away every hour for a half hour cause it takes 20 mins just to get of hospital grounds,and in the winter I hate it even more.I should also mention that oxygen is not flammable and can not go up from sparks like gasoline it is only an accelerator here is a link for more information about that http://www.portableoxygen.org/o2safety.html#notflammable
you can also do a google search and find all sorts of answers but once you get to the truth of the matter it is not flammable but once a fire starts then there can be trouble smoking used to be allowed in hospitals at one time I remember when we could smoke right in a hospital room then they put designated smoking rooms then it ended up outside and now it's not on hospital grounds whatsoever.
