has anyone done this, yet? be it in the smoking section of a restaurant (or non smoking for that matter and well, purpose of my curiosity), a workplace, or around gatherings of non smokers?

i love the 'cards' that come with the kits/orders. i have ten, now, and plan to have them with me at work. i work in a hospital (the laboratory) so it's a pretty vital place, and going smoke-free in may. as it is, smokers are now confined to a back corner behind the hospital, in a place that, at night, gets dark and somewhat unsafe.

today, i vaped in the bathroom of our lab, and had my co-worker step in each time after to confirm that no, no clouds/smell were left behind. now granted, it's a hospital -- so even with the card that explains everything cut and dry, i still couldn't just up and vape in the side waiting room on a break while checking my phone, LOL. i mean, i *could*, in theory, but it's more the example being set given the environment. yes, vaping is cancer/tar/etc free, but i know i'd be in massive trouble if i did.

but hospitals aside...

restaurants? office jobs? on a bus/public transit? "vapes on a plane?" (inside joke....) i'd like to hear stories about this! if this topic is already buried someplace, i'm very sorry for reposting!

I have vaped in CVS and at the gas station. That is about the only places. I would do it other places but haven't really been out and about since the holidays.

Will be flying next week and I plan to have my VK on the plane with me to stealth vape if needed. I kinda don't want the stare and looks from strangers so I will probably head for the restroom if need be.

Now at the hotel I will vape away out in the open. I don't mind, and actually look forward to showing it to my smoking family members who will be there too.

Today I vaped in JC Penney, inside the food court at the mall and in Macy's. No one said anything. I wasn't making a big deal out of it, though. Just taking a few hits because I was having a nic craving. I also showed the PV around to a few people and of course, handed out business cards. Everyone was curious and I think the big deal with this is people who want to quit love the idea, but they really don't believe it'll work. Everyone asks me "Does it really work?" and when I say yes, they grin really big. I hope they order!

Oh, just wanted to add, I'm in California and there are no "smoking sections" in bars or restaurants.

there is unabsorbed nicotine in the mist that is exhaled. I know nicotine in that small of a dose wouldn't hurt anyone but, I don't think it would be good for anyone who is inside a hospital as a patient, or around children. Nicotine intake is a choice you make, if you vape around a nonsmoker/vaper you are forcing that nicotine upon them in your exhale.

If you do go to the lav on the airplane, DO NOT blow the vapor at the smoke detector. Blow it toward the floor.

They use the cheapest smoke detectors known to man and the vapor will set off alarms. Its been done and that's a situation you don't want to find yourself in!

I vape at work in my cube. I do turn my fan on so that there is not a huge plume rising up but so far no complaints. The non smokers so far have been intrigued.

It is the smokers that seem to have the most issue with it. I still go outside to be social with them and a few are pretty negative. Don't know what the problem is really. I have offered them the option of trying it but I am not forcing it on them. I still go outside and hang like normal, I just have a stranger looking object to inhale from. It is hard not to look happy when you can make and play with huge plumes of yum. I am sorry if they don't take as much joy in making huge plumes of smoke.

Anyway, veering off topic so I will stop now.

Summary: So far I have gotten more acceptance from indoor vaping then hanging with the smokers.

They're using particulate detectors which are actually pretty effective, but easily falsed.

I was doing an installation in a hotel once, and the dust from drilling a firewall got into the air duct nearby and set off the duct detector which is of the same ilk. It evacuated the entire hotel at like 3am, and enclosed me in fire doors. Not one of my more shining evenings, I assure you.

This really is on-topic though. Unless you understand what form of detection is being used, do be cautious. Evacuating hotels at 3am does NOT make you popular, and the fire martial and first-responders are probably going to be unamused by your vaping explanation... At least I had a big .... ship-auger on a big-.... drill in my hand. Leaves people thinking twice about riding you out of town on the proverbial rail... ;)

i get chuckles and strange looks from the smokers, too. at the same time, though, they seem intrigued. one of them said, 'you'll be back,' but i just don't see it happening now. i've not thought of, nor missed, an analog (or lung bullet!) since i started the VK.

and i'd never just out and vape in the center of the hospital, in case it seemed like i meant i would! i did in the bathroom, frequently - but i'm sure it's far less nic than the many patients/visitors who take their last drag before entering, and then exhale while walking through the doors (ie: INTO the waiting room).

i am, though, curious about the nic output now, because the card says 99 percent water, 1 percent nic/flavors, if i'm not mistaken. that's tiny enough that i didn't think it'd matter, but i suppose that's relative.

I'm just not that much of an activist.

'bazooka: Do you have any documentation on the bioavailability or even amount of unbound nicotine that is being exhaled?

I've seen it mentioned in many posts on ECF. I don't know how much but if there is some I wouldn't subject a non smoker/vaper to it.
