The only "problem" I've ever had while vaping in public was at a mall shuttle stop. Two ladies walked up and one of them started that annoying fake coughing routine, and made some snide remark about smokers. I turned around, flashed my PV at them and said "This is NOT a cigarette and I'm NOT smoking!" They both got red in the face and walked away. Other than that, I've been met with some curious looks and the occasional question.

This made me lol. Don't you just love the fake coughing routine? I'm so impressed that you put those women in their place -- wish I had the courage to do that!

So help me... I'm awaiting the day I can do that and say, "Your preconceived perceptions far exceed your intellect!" And yes, I'm not shy...

A personal humorous aside... I can picture my Mom, rest her Soul, doing exactly what those ladies did. I saw her do that fake cough due to BBQ smoke... down wind!

There have been many threads on this topic. A majority (at least based on the posts) vape in public with no problems. In my experience and from what others have stated, you tend to get more positive comments and better support if you are vaping on a PV that looks nothing like the real thing. Most of us don't want anyone to still think we smoke. For the last two plus years I've used either a 5 volt PV and now my variable volt Darwin. I can say I have had only positive feedback and I vape everywhere. I also go through metal detectors regularly at courthouses and have ended up giving more sheriff deputies cards on where to buy a Darwin than anywhere else.

Vape openly and proudly.

I've just gotten in to vape and am almost off of analogs all together, anyway, today I came out of my office (I am a bookkeeper for The Home Depot, so people rarely see me on the floor I'm always in the office) and I walked up where normally I would go up to the service desk and find out who was on the front end and where my smokers were to keep me company. (I'm in that office all alone all day...break time is talk time!) When I pulled out my pv and took a vape before we got out side a big bru-ha-ha cut loose... and my ex boss is excited to get started on pvs as well!!! Give me a few months Home Depot will be a pv meet up spot lol

There was a tread a while ago about HD not allowing vaping...

I do find that some big box stores like Home Depot have a lot of "Step-On-Egg-Shells" Policies to keep their customers from making any type of complaints, but The places I have seen that really don't care either way are Wal-Mart, Most grocery stores and Lowes of all places.

Wal-mart is an obvious one because any store I have actually been to, any way to actually get ANY attention, customer service or otherwise is to pocket some merchandise, and then they surround you like a swarm of angry bees.

My mangers are super excited I'm doing it, haven't said anything to me yet. I wouldn't do it at a register or working in a dept, that's common sense, but I'll have to check in the standards to see. Again, I'm all alone in an office that is restricted access so people don't really care what I do as long as we have supplies and everything is in balance and running smoothly. That said I wasn't back there using my pv all day, no time to even think back there! lol. Until my hand gets slapped I'm just going to use common sense and keep at it. When I mentioned I was thinking about getting an e cig they all hopped on board and were pushing for it. Pretty supportive group I have :)

I vape everywhere mostly with permission. I try to be respectful of others. That's really the key of not getting hassled. I get questions from smokers and people who have smoking loved-ones wondering if it really works, where to get it, can they have my number if they have questions, etc. I hid my 1-1/2 PAD smoking habit (not well probably) for years. I vape proud and help as many as possible switch if they ask about it.

Only bad experience was the stink-eye my first few days with a cigarette look-alike tan and white ecig/PV. I'll never use one of those in public again. Lots of haters out there when you're sucking on something that looks like a cigarette.

SLOWES!!!!!!!!!! As I said I really think it's common sense I would never put on my apron to go service equipment and vape while I was up there. There are lines ESPECIALLY with corporations geesh the tape lines we have to dance around, it;s enough to cause a head ache. HD is nothing but wanting to please the demographic of the area. I live in a bible thumping community where northerners come to die... needless to say it's a lil stuffy

Was at Home Depot today with hubby getting a door. We spent 20 minutes or so with a sales guy. I got out my GLV and ask if he minded if I vaped my ecig while we talked. No problem. I have voicemail from him scheduling the guy to do the measuring and his wife wants 'one of those things I was smoking' and wondered if I could help with that. LOL.

No problems here and I've vaped in garden sections of home improvement stores, and on restaurant patios where smoking is not allowed. I do, however, always ask permission of restaurant staff before vaping. Luckily I am also allowed to vape at my desk at work.

It's always best to ask before vaping in restaurants but 90% of the time the staff has no clue.

I'm a bit shy, and socially awkward... so how do you, typically, ask permission of restaurant/bar staff?

I find it better (in all aspects of life) to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. I have had no problems thus far though.

Ditto with me. I am not smoking, so why should I ask permission? I simply start vaping. Occasionally, someone walks up and says, "Sorry, sir, no smoking." Then, I just smile and say, "I'm not smoking, this gives off vapor, not smoke...But don't worry, many folks make the same mistake." Then, they almost always just smile, say "sorry," and walk away. Only once in the last year has anyone said, "Well, please stop anyway, the customers seem annoyed." Then, I just stopped.
