If you want variable voltage, here are the two I would suggest:

Less costly but also with less features: a variable voltage box mod model from Ken's Box Mods. Ken is well supported on ECF and stands behind his products: Kens Boxmods .

One of the top of the line models is the Darwin from nhaler.com. It comes with a full 2 year warranty, will give you 21+ hours on a charge, has regulated, boost circuit technology which makes it the most consistent model on the market and doubles as a pass-through so you can charge and vape at the same time. It is the only power regulated, variable wattage model made:

Nhaler

There are a number of other good options, as well. You can use any atty/carto or tank on these models although LR type attys are not needed, obviously.

I am also new 120+ days and still using kr808 with blank cartos and making my own juice now. I've been eyeing Volcanos lava tube and the tank system myself for home use and its
cheaper than the Provari. A lot of Mods out there to choose from so I've been taking my time searching. want to save $$. However, I also want something for on the go so I might have to find something smaller just for that. Checking out the New Joye eGo C and waiting for more reviews on that. You could get the Lava tube device by itself and get the charger and batteries for it at supertmanufacturing. Well Good Luck with all the choices because I still have not decided. and Congrats on quitting analogs.

Somebody said there is a new 18350 Lavatube coming and that would be smaller. Currently Lavatube is is longer than Provari but about the same size as Provari w/ an 18650 extension on (size battery current Lavatube uses). It will be interesting to see the size of the 18350 Lavatube.

Smaller invariably means smaller battery, smaller mAh rating, shorter vaping time, switching batteries more often.

Hello all! I'm a newbie to vaping (90 days) and looking to upgrade from my kr808 stick battery. I am a little overwhelmed with the choices out there. I know I want something with a clear tank and variable voltage. Can anyone recommend a model/company? Thanks!

I just started vaping recently, and started with a KR808 auto. I like it a lot, but need to start thinking about my full time PV. Since my first purchase, I added a 510 manual and some gear. Also grabbed a 510 5V mod kit, but forgot to order the batteries with it (had to put in a 2nd order for the batteries ) Was just in a hurry and impulse bought. I did all the soldering and got her put together, just waiting on the batteries to get here so I can fire it up! Tracking info says Tuesday 12/27. Two more days! Darn holiday weekend. Monday isn't Christmas, why does the post office have to be closed? Must be a conspiracy against me by big tobacco. He wants me to break down and fire up some analogs while I'm waiting to try out my new 5V mod.

Bah Humbug!:grr:

According to 2smoke which is the only place I've seen the 18350 version so far it's 9.5cm which is just under 3.75". That should put it right at 1/3" less length than the Provari without the extension. The 18650 Lava is a bit longer than the Provari with the extension.
