So I started to venture into the RDA world and bought myself a IGO-W. I am currently vaping 12mg in a carto tank. After doing my first build on my IGO-W I tried smoking the same 12mg on it and I was taken back by how harsh and how much TH I got from it. Is this normal?

I spoke with an employee at my local vape shop and he said that it is normal. He stated that when you vape out of an RDA, you basically get the throat hit of a 24mg when you drip a 12mg. Does this hold true for RBA's as well? I still have so much 12mg juice I need to go through, but want to start dripping.

It depends on if you're running a single or dual coil, whether you're going sub-ohm or not, type of wick.....it goes on but it is mostly the coil that will change the TH. I will say that running a .3 ohm dual coil on my igo-w dripping with 6mg juice that after 5 good hits I will really feel the effects of the nicotine.

Put one of these on that igo

I first got one in order to get my lips a little farther from the flame. Then I had to change my coil wraps in order to get the TH back.

I had my local vape shop drill out the holes (forgot what size, but it isn't at an extreme size). I'm pretty sure I am building them correctly as I watched a ton of videos before buying my atty. I do agree that the TH is light on cartos, but the TH on the igo makes me choke. I tried vaping on my friends build (dual coil, sub ohm, 6mg) and was able to vape it fine so that's why i think I may have to lower my nic level.

Many vapers do reduce their nic with rebuildables. Some because of the effectiveness of the nic delivery and some because of throat hit. I drip using 12 and it is too harsh for my brother (he loves his protank), but completely fine for me. There are a lot of different things that can affect it like position of the coil, position of the air holes, etc.

Whether single coil, dual coil, LR, HR, rda or genny...throat hit has been harsher. I kinda like it though. Just ordered 6mg juice because I'm trying to reduce my nic overtime, but I know there is no way I would have been able to handle 18mg (where I started) on an rda.
