So far I've lost about 60 pounds since April.
Since my one year vape anniversary was in May and I hadn't had any slip-ups I decided I should finally take my diet and exercise more seriously, I mean no cigs for a year after 20-ish years as a smoker, I figured anything was possible.
I cut out all the fast food and sodas, sweet tea (that one almost did me in, I mean this is Texas, and it's Summer, you have to have sweet sun tea), no meat other than fish/seafood, I drink around a gallon of water a day, no more sweets, but lots of fresh fruit and plenty of vegetables, yogurt and even the dreaded veggie burger.
I now feel I have a handle on the diet aspect, but I still need to work on the exercise portion. I am starting to feel much better and am getting my energy levels up. I've been doing some light weight training, nothing extreme, just some curls and presses, but hope to get in more walking/hiking when the temperature breaks this coming week. I was even looking at maybe getting a bike since I only work about 4 miles from home, but I think I'm still away from that goal for now.
I think actually being able to taste my food has helped a lot as I don't have to have super sweet or salty food to be satiated when I eat. But I won't lie, the first month was a bugger. I gave myself 1 cheat day a week where I could eat whatever I wanted. After the first month I decided to stop doing that because the BBQ, pizza, or Jack in the Box Ultimate Cheeseburger didn't taste nearly as good as watching my weight continue to drop.
This isn't a choice everyone would make or welcome, but I have been very heavy most of my life and was tired of the Dr. visits with new blood-work needed and new RX's to be filled. I was on a high dose of blood-pressure medicine, another medicine because I was borderline diabetic, and on a cholesterol reducing drug that made me constantly feel like crap.
I just had a check-up and blood work last month, the doctor said no more diabetes medicine, no more cholesterol drugs and my blood pressure has been low enough that my meds were lowered for that as well (I monitor and keep a daily journal of my BP every morning).
My doctor was so impressed she said unless my BP numbers deviate I am good to go until next year before I need to come back in.
I consider this is a victory for me as last Feb., just before I began vaping, I had to have my gall bladder removed and was in the doctor's office every 2-3 weeks while trying to get my blood pressure stabilized and adjusting the meds.
So anyway, for me, one year off the smokes with vaping inspired me to make some large and worth while changes in my life for the better.
I don't consider anything I am doing now to be temporary, it is how I will eat, exercise, etc for now on, as I should have been doing all along. The only changes from here on out will be to add more activity.
Sorry if this sounds preachy or is TMI for anyone reading this, I didn't intend for this post to be this long or come off that way.
It is my belief that the only person anyone has control over is themselves, and sometimes not even then.
