Not ramble, but to give a bit of setting, my wife and I eat at a particular restaurant every 猫曜日. We like the people there; they like us, etc... We normally eat there alone, but today, we asked some family if they wanted to come along. They said yes (fun times for great justice!).

Well, all four of us are vapers, but I had not yet spoken to the proprietors to ensure their consent, so we didn't vape.

After the meal I walked up to one of the owners and began my query. She said that she would call the local Health Department to see about whether or not it was okay. (Hopefully we know what the answer will be.)

She thanked me for not vaping until the next time we came in (which I more than willingly offered), and I think she will most assuredly be contacting the HD for that information.

Did I take the right steps for our future? Should I have made it such a give-and-take, or should I have simply ducked it down and vaped in a "ask-for-forgiveness"-mentality?

If they confirm that it is doable and choose to allow me to vape in their restaurant, should we take it further? Should we ask to put up signs indicating that it is okay? After all, I would think that even smokers who still don't know about vaping would be interested to see a sign saying they could vape and then having the chance at another convert for the day.

What do you guys and gals think?

I always ask. It makes a bad impression to "get caught," and we don't need that right now. Plus, it's just considerate. Walking around shirtless isn't illegal, but the owner of an establishment has every right to deny you entrance if you choose not to wear a shirt. At the end of the day, they can make pretty much any rules they want, so just because it's legal to vape doesn't mean we're entitled to vape in an establishment owned by an individual or individuals.

So yeah, I think you made the right call.

If you get into a longer conversation with the owner about it and they seem open to talk about it, you may want to ask about an "E-cigarettes permitted" sign." I can't remember where it was, but I saw someone designing a window sticker for businesses to use if they permit e-cigs.

I think you did it the right way. It's only courteous to allow the establishment to make the decision. I only vape in places that were recently effected by the smoking ban (bars/casinos). But, I still let the workers/owners know what I was doing ahead of time and asked if would be okay.

We all have our opinions on this, but I really do not think we should be vaping in places that children can see us either. That's because some of the KR8s look too much like a real cigarette and some of our other PVs may look like some "cool" little toy they would like to try some day. (Of course, I am not talking about vapers who have children that they can explain it to, or would be smoking around them either way.)

It would be nice, though, if some restaurants could have a vaping section. Let us know how it turns out.
