One good thing about using snus to quit smoking is that you actually break the habit of smoking itself. To me its a two part problem. Addiction and habit. I think if you give into your habit, sooner or later you are better your chances of going back to cigarettes. if your equipment malfunctions, or you run out of supplies, or even your shipment never gets to you. I think youll have more of a chance going back to cigarettes to fill both the habit and nicotine aspect of it. Thats why I have decided to use just snus to quit smoking.

I've been thinking along the same line for a while. I suspect the oral fixation part of vaping can be a two edged sword for many. It may make it easier to quit smoking because it mimics the habit part, but it also may make it easier to drift back into smoking at some later date.

For me smoking was just a means to an end. That's how I got my nicotine/WTA. The habit and ritual developed around that. It was better for me to get rid of the habit along with the cigarettes. I also had some odd reactions to PV's. Every time I vaped I wanted a cigarette. The oral fixation part of it set off triggers.

Boy, I've felt the same. Hittin' a PV always reminded me of how much I wished is was more like a smoke. Once I got the snus mouth I found the only appeal left in vaping was to support my habit of smoking. Surprisingly, once I got myself figured out, the habit was quite easy to break. Now it's all snus with the occasional snuff. I'm almost maintenance free.....almost :).

I think it was the hassle of maintaining PV's that helped go completely to snus. I picked up my roommates PV tonight and had to stop and remember how it works. I've been working to lower my nic intake and am now down to General Mini's at last, not sure what an analog would do to me now.

Phoow, that's a heck of a feat, BD (I remember your Thunder posts). I'll never get there 'til I'm dead.

The only downside of snus to me really is sometimes it gives me heartburn or like an acid feeling in my stomach, and also when you use snus, sometimes u dont feel like you are doing anything. Like wearing a patch. With american dip you know you get to roll it around ur mouth more and suck out the juices etc. The oral fixation part of snus is quite minimal since u leave it under ur upper lip and dont mess with it much.

I like snus, but I think most of the original snus smells like cat pee or a nasty smell when it is not ice cold.

i agree with the addiction&habit&ritual aspect of using PVs to quit smoking, which is why I really used e-cigs as a substitute for smoking. Even from using a low/no nic e-liquid, I still get satisfaction from the hand-to-mouth action, and I just love blowing smoke(vapor) rings :)

like a majority of others on this side of the tracks, PVs alone couldn't keep me away from smokes forever...enter snuff and snus. I don't see myself dropping PVs anytime soon, because I love the satisfaction I get from the action of vaping. Plus, there's not too many tricks to do with snuff/snus, but blowing one vapor ring inside another vapor ring :D

Love the "cat pee" reference. Wish I'd thought of that!

But it's true. My tub on Make Your Own Snus is so vile that the entire house smells like I'm keeping 20 cats. I want that smell GONE more than I want to use the product. It has even turned me off to Ettan (it has a similar stink).

Now .. I love the smell of pipe tobacco. What the hell is different about snus tobacco that makes it smell like a dead fish?

I am surprised she is still letting you keep in inside. How long have you had it that it still smells so bad?

He got it on 2/27. The instructions on the website say to store it in the fridge for 3 days..........I think the Swedish folks are a little different from us...Houston, we have a problem......

Yeah I have always said snus stinks, but most people disagree with me or call me crazy. I am not sure the reason why. It could be many. Could be due to how its processed or them shipping it over. after all this is a refrigerated product being shipped across the globe. Maybe the stuff just starts going bad?

plus i realize the longer its not in the fridge the worse it starts smelling. I notice the new products out like general mint do not have that odor much. I think swedish match is starting to change more for american buyers. We are now starting to see mint flavors and better smelling/tasting stuff coming out.

Dont get me wrong. I have had loose general snus that smelled like cat pee, and other times i get it open it and it smells nice. So who knows

Well it certainly does have a smell but whether it could be described as a stink or just a smell is in the nostril of the beholder. Many people describe ripe cheeses as stinky whilst others think they smell divine. I quite like the unique smell of snus (and stinky cheeses too as it happens).

I don't think that snus can go off in the way that food products do - the high salt content plus PG & VG (if present) keep bacteria and moulds at bay. Almost everything oxidises with time though so some degradation is inevitable eventually.

Snus was invented before refrigeration so it shouldn't *need* refrigeration.
I was under the impression that keeping it cool is to prevent it drying out so quickly.

The aroma of most things increases with temperature.

Perhaps the flavoured snus mask the natural snus smell a little better and mint has quite a strong smell of its own.

I believe the cat pee smell is just the ammonia which is created during the manufacturing process. I think - and it's the same with snuff by-the-way - that the stronger the ammonia smell, the fresher the product. Presumably it dissipates or transforms into something else with time.

Yeah, I think the smell is probably so potent because the snus is really fresh. And as I understand it, the tobacco is processed into snus as needed, so as long as it's not a can that's been sitting around the storeroom forever, it all should be pretty fresh.
