I've been vaping for seven months and couldn't get away from a few cigs a day. Finally, I ordered snus and found Camel locally while waiting on my order. I'm on day ten with zero smokes. So far, not even close to needing a smoke. vaping less and only doing two to four portions a day.

I do sometimes vape and snus at the same time with no issues. I'm trying to stay as light on nic levels on both and once I feel totally stable, I'm going to lower nic levels in the vapor.

So whilst e-cigs were good (indeed much better than anything else tried previously), they're not particularly efficient at delivering nicotine and don't contain any other tobacco alkaloids. They're somewhat temperamental in use, relatively expensive, a bit messy, need maintenance, need constant charging and the long term effects are completely unknown (especially the flavourings). However, they replicate the physical side of smoking exceptionally well. With people for whom the drugs are less important than the habit, e-cigs work very well.

In comparison, snus & snuff deliver the same active ingredients as cigarettes and do it very well, are simple to carry and use, have no maintenance requirements, are discrete, are inexpensive, have a long history of use and peer-reviewed study. With people for whom the drugs are more important than the habit, snus & snuff work very well.

And I think this really puts it all in a nice nutshell. Thanks Kitabz :).

The above a good analogy.

I drink [lots of] coffee but it's got nothing to do with the caffeine; for me it's the taste. I'm equally happy with decaffeinated as long as the flavour is good. For many other people however, caffeine is what they want.

I didn't smoke for the taste or the physical habit, just the nicotine and other active ingredients in tobacco. That might be the best summary on the issue that I've seen here or anywhere else, kitabz.

Today was my first full day with the Americanized snus from Camel and it (along with alot of hits on my PV) has really slashed my desire for a cig to almost nil for most of the day. I actually burned one while I was out walking the dogs tonight and it tasted awful... first time for that. It's really been very surprising. I'm optimistic that for the first time I might just be putting the right tools in my kit. I'll have an even better kit when my order of Swedish snus gets here, I suspect.

does anyone vape and snus at the same time (vaping while you've got snus in your mouth)?

I can't do without any of my alternatives, but, basically, I use e-cigs for the habit, snus and snuff for the addiction. And I use them at the same time, non-stop daily. I've learned not to use the strongest snus with the strongest e-liquid, etc. A medium snus and 24mg liquid is fine when used concurrently.

Ya forgot to mention that also TB, cut the mg on both if doing both or you will be in green gill city.

Also if you vape at higher volts lower the nic juice.

Currently at 5v-6v I vape 12 mg or less juice and snus nothing more than 12 mg

Remember that taste the next time you want a smoke! After a week or so not smoking, if you do have a cigarette, they will taste horrible, your sense of smell has improved so you will notice how much you smell like an ashtray after just one smoke. BTW food tastes better too :D

I've been working alot around the house today - sometimes with 2-3 hours between thinking about stopping for a smoke, or vape, or snus. I've found myself liking the snus more and more over the last few days, but discovered today that for the time being it's going to be important to me to stay ahead of the nicotine cravings. Since the delivery from snus seems to take a bit longer than a cig, once I'd take a break, the cravings came on hard and heavy and I just couldn't get it into my system fast enough to knock it back. Best advice I have for anyone else new is stay ahead of the cravings! There's definitely a learning curve with this stuff... but it's been fun so far and has cut down on both smoking and vaping. Wish I'd have know about it years ago!

Yep, like all these other alternatives, it takes its own method of operation. I've been using snus long enough now that when a nasty crave digs its heel in, I start to feel relief almost as soon as I put in a portion. Only psychological, but since snus has always been able to beat down the worst of cravings every time, my mind is already edging across the starting line :).

Yep, again. A couple toots of an American Scotch snuff will put ya back in order, no thinking required :).

So true. It seems so ironic that the latest invention - e-cigs - has led so many of us to discover all these alternatives that existed all along but that we didn't know about. Thanks largely to TropicalBob and others on this small subforum.

It's also very damning on the quit-or-die brigade that these reduced harm alternatives are so little known. I would presume that being tobacco products, advertising is not permitted and I've certainly never heard of any other source of nicotine mentioned WRT quitting smoking except pharmaceutical NRTs.

The quit hard liners have a lot of blood on their hands.

You're right about that, Kit. If the only methods I had were NRT's, PV's and nothing, my only chance of success without suicide would be a life of anti-depressant and/or anti-anxiety drug induced stupor. We're the fortunate ones.
