I'm going to go against the grain and say it probably wouldn't bother you at all if you don't inhale. And if you never smoked, then there's no reason to learn to inhale. I actually don't a lot of the time, since I also smoke a pipe where you almost never inhale.
Generally, having asthma myself, it could well be a wash though even if you do inhale. Most people don't actually exercise their diaphragm and other breathing muscles, which vaping can do. But in general, there are probably a whole bunch of things you could do that would be worse. Living in a major urban area, for one. Living in a rural area with lots of pollen. Having a fire in a fireplace. Heating your home with an old oil fired furnace. Living in a place with high humidity and lots of mold. Living in a desert with all the dust. Living in a temperate zone with all the growing things.
Myself, I see young people who are starting vaping because they enjoy it, not for the drug, and it certainly doesn't seem to be any more horrible than than oh, say, chewing gum or sucking on hard candy. I don't stand with the, "You shouldn't do anything that might hurt you." because it is just ridiculous. No caffeine, no sugar, no fat, no salt, no meat, no ... oh, whatever.
If you don't do nic, there's no addiction, so if it doesn't suit you, no real harm done. If you like it, then yes, it's not 'ideal', but then there's not really anything we eat or drink or breathe that's 'ideal'. Even cavemen thousands of years ago had issues with smoke from their fires. You pay your money, you takes your chances.
