As a lot of you know I received my Grand yesterday. After setting it all up and vaping now for awhile, I have some questions. The vape that I am getting is awesome as far as the clouds go but the taste and warmth are not as intense as my vamo + kayfun lite.

Here are my setups:

Vamo + kayfun - 1.5 ohm coil, cotton wick, 3.8v ....lots of clouds good warmth and very good taste

Reo Grand + RM2 - First build was 1.2ohm cotton wick lots of clouds but lacking on warmth and taste
Second build is .9ohm cotton wick lots of clouds but still lacking on warmth and taste

I thought maybe I was just getting better vapes with the Grand and that my taste buds had quit for a bit but I popped a battery in my vamo and vaped the kayfun and the warmth and taste that I love were right there.

I have read through many threads on setting up the coil on the RM2 and have made sure the air hole lines up with the coil etc. but I can't seem to get that really good taste yet. Any help would be great....thanks

So some comparisons to begin with. Using an Ohms law calculator Your Kayfun is under 10 watts of heat, the Reo with the a fully charged battery and .9 ohm coil is almost 20 watts of heat. I've never used a Kayfun, is the draw tighter than the RM2?

You might try partially blocking the air hole on the RM2 as an experiment. Raise the coil up to increase TH. For flavor I'd try pushing the coil closer to the edge and the air hole. Because your legs will be longer you'll need less wraps to keep the same ohms.

EDIT: The increased heat at the coil can change the flavor of some juices.

It's because of how the Kayfun is built. The chamber of the Kayfun is extremely compact, and paired with a super tight funnel, vapor comes out very concentrated and warm/hot. Even the stock drip tip helps that case since it's also fairly thin. You can't replicate the exact vape you get off a Kayfun or Kayfun style RBA, because you would need an RDA with a chamber smaller than that of an IGO-S. So your best bet is lowering the ohms, tighter draw and raising the coil.

Agree with what's said in general so far. It's off in a couple of ways.

First thing to try is getting that coil closer to the air hole and raising it higher to line up better. It looks like your coil is about touching the deck! If it is partially submerged most of the time in a pool of juice it won't perform so well. Coils draw in liquid and evaporate it, they do not boil it! One of the advantages of the Kayfun is how it's almost impossible to mess up the airflow designed to go around the coils you build for it. You need to keep this in mind with the RM2. Gotta give your coil proper space underneath it so air can whip around the whole coil. I take it this is your first rodeo with a side-air RBA?

Also, try not to overuse the cotton, there is no need to fan it out like you are. Just make sure there is enough to merely touch the deck and make sure the squonk hole can drain properly.

You'll get it down after a few builds and have that "aaaHA!" moment in no time.

Yes this is my first rodeo with side-air. I just had an AHA moment...I feel kind of stupid. Every time I kept reading you guys say "air hole" my brain kept seeing the drain hole. I think I broke like 3 or 4 legs trying to contort the coil parallel with the posts, closer to the edge and closer the....DRAIN HOLE!...LOL. So I now have a .7 ohm coil on 28ga. kanthal, coil is back towards the deck raised up more even with the AIR HOLE, cotton wick just touching the deck. My first vape......OMG....warm and full of flavor!!!! Any fine tuning suggestions?

That's awesome clone.

It's all uphill from here. You'd be surprised at the subtle differences positioning can make regarding flavor and TH. Just keep experimenting, the RM2 is a sensitive little beast.

Also, if your going to hang around below .8Ω take a gander when firing your Reo every once in awhile to make sure there isn't any sparking. If there is, there should be a little baggy with some grey goop in it that came with your Reo. Just follow the instructions in this video from Rob. Throwing this in here so you can avoid another eventual/potential hiccup in you Reo experience.

ric, I am new to the reos and the RM2 also, about a month in, I got good results from the beginning, now as time moves on, my builds have improved and my grand and the RM2 is so good its comparable to my Philippine mods and attys, in fact they are so good, I'm selling off all my other mods and going with reos only.. never thought that could happen.

That is awesome...good to hear this. Just the adjustments that I did above were a HUGE difference!

Great job bro and to all who suggested tweaks :)

I too would have recommended pulling it out just a hair - you went a little further than I would have but I'm glad it's rocking :).

I also would have raised it slightly so it drained properly and used less cotton.

You are in great hands with this bunch. These guys / chica's are knowledgable as heck and ALWAYS willing to jump in and help.

What an awesome army we have here :). Y'all rock :)
