Vapor World Newbie Needing Smoktech SID Advice Plz

I am 3 weeks into vaping without a cigarette (celebrate)...I have been using a Vision Spinner 1300mah with a Kanger 2 mini Pro tank and 1.8 ohm coil/wick and LOVE it set on 3.8-4.0 volts with all of my 24ml juices. I started burning coils out with a horrible taste, so I went up to a 2.2 ohm coil/wick and it helped a bit

I wanted to step it up a notch for longer battery life and to take my vaping to the next level from advice of several vape shop owners. So I purchased a Smoktech SID variable voltage/ variable wattage mod. I am using a 5ml Hyper Tank Glass Atomizer with 3.2 ohm coil/wick and I can not find the perfect setting. I have used the ohm's law calculator to find a "green" sweet spot just to be disappointed. I set it on 5 watts and 4 volts, this is said to be, " the perfect spot" . I have played around the wattage only and then voltage only and just can't get to the taste and throat hit I was getting with my Vision Spinner.

I have read till I am blue in the face and I am wondering if it is because I am using the 3.2 ohm coil/wick. If I am understanding this all correctly as long as I set my wattage then I truly don't need to set the volts because it will adjust.

I have set my SID on each increment and puffed and as I get to the higher wattage of 7 or above its tastes horrible. I have used the volts only on each increment and the same issue.

Any suggestions would be adored by my newbie self . I know its all about preference but I am having a hard time with starting to even find my preference and I am using my Vision Spinner as I sit here to get my vape on. What am I doing wrong or what I can do better.

I vape super low with most of my tanks. I use watts mode - 6-7.5 depending on the resistance and the liquid.

I do have a few liquids that do not taste good unless the watts are much higher than I normally set - so on those I go 8-10 dependent on the resistance.

Every different liquid + different tank MAY warrant a different sweet spot.

If it tastes good low - vape it low :)

Maybe it is the resistance part I am not understanding. If I take my Mini Pro Tank 2 and put it on my Vision Spinner I get the throat hit and the sweet taste of my juices. ( chi tea = smokey mountain, poppaz = joes, watermelon = cheap stuff, carmel mocha = cheap stuff ) but when I put it on my Smoktech SID on a 4 to 6 wattage, they taste sooooooooo different and I don't get the throat hit that makes me feel satisfied.

So I am trying to adjust but can't find the right adjustment for the SID. I am sure I will get there in time. Just reaching out to see if anyone has had the same issues switching from a Vision 1300mah Spinner to a VW/VV .

Different power supplies have there own different internal resistances.

From what I read, there may also be something about pulsing on these systems ; something i still unsure about

Ahhh - I see what you are asking now! I think maybe you are experiencing issues with PWM! As stated by Edyle about the pulsing.

This may explain it more clearly - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...able-voltage-mods-pulse-width-modulation.html

Another member here at ECF explained this perfectly in a recent post on a similar thread:
all the different mods produce power. 5v is in fact 5v but the way they produce that power can vary widely. and is dependent mainly on what kind of chip is inside, some do a sloppy job of they way they regulate power and this will in fact change the perception of the vapor.
while you are correct the device ultimately decides how well something vapes, the way they decide to send power to that device can vary widely.

for some it makes no difference and they dont seem to notice, for others there is a perceived difference such as this mod makes the vapor smoother this one is harsher and hotter.

it all comes down to how the mod is regulating the power output, with the general belief that the more accurate to the setting and the closer to a pure DC output the better the overall experience will be.

the cheaper chips pulse the electricity creating very deep waves where the coil is actually running hotter and cooler then the setting, then averaging out those peaks to get the number you set for the voltage, many other mods choose to use this method but have better systems so even though it is pulsing what comes out of the tip seems closer to a smooth output - the smoother the overall signal the smoother the vapor.

here is one (of the many) threads talking about this in detail

Thank you very much; that explains how some power supplies can actually taste a whole lot different from other power supplies; first of all it may not be DC voltage! Because getting 6V for 50% of the time to average out at 3 volts amounts to AC voltage instead of DC voltage that one would expect from a battery.

Maybe this is why a lot of people go for the mechanical mods.

I use my Protank II and Protank Mini on my SiD regularly, rebuilt with 1.7-ish coils and cotton ball wicks. I go with 8 watts and 3.7-8 volts, and I get great flavor and vapor. (Depending on how old and what shape the head is in, of course)

Here's a chart of watts vs volts vs ohms - a 3.2, according to them, optimal is watts from 4.75 to 6, and volts 3.9 to 4.4. These charts are usually pretty good as a reference, it can be different for your gear and juice - some juices like a little more oomph behind them, some less.
