vaporesso luxe XR Max 2
intro.jpg
Today, I'm back with another, shall we say, nostalgic review. This is indeed the successor to the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max, the first device I used to start vaping and get into all these reviews. I'm really looking forward to this device, and I know they've made some changes, like including both DL and MTL pods in the packaging. I prefer this to including a DL and an RDTL pod, as I think it's a more significant and noticeable change for the customer. Anyway, we'll talk more about this later.

Thanks to Sourcemore for making this review possible. You can visit their page to learn more about the Luxe XR Max 2. Plus, they've provided me with a discount code (VLXM2) that reduces the price of the device to $28.69.

As always, we can see the typical and usual features of Vaporesso packaging: a combination of black and green as the main colors, with white for the typography. In the center, there's an image of the device in question, which in this case, matches the chosen color. The top right corner also indicates that it includes Vaporesso's new GTX dual mesh coils.

On the back, the first thing that catches our eye is the extensive list of box contents, which in this case is:

1* Luxe XR Max 2 Battery
1* Luxe XR Pod (5mL, DTL)
1* Luxe XR Pod (5mL, MTL)
1* GTX 0.2Ω Dual Mesh
1* GTX 0.8Ω Mesh
1* Type-C Cable
1* Reminder Card
1* User Manual
1* Warranty Card

As for the rest, it's the usual: specifications, some contact addresses, a few logos and warnings, plus a barcode indicating the color.

Vaporesso's packaging remains simple yet effective and aesthetically pleasing. Honestly, I like it.

Let's dive into the interesting part: the device itself, specifically the front this time. The materials used in the device's construction are:

- Aluminum alloy for all the colored parts.
- Polycarbonate for the front and back panels.
- PCTG for the cartridges.

As you can observe, both by touch and sight, the build quality of this Luxe XR Max 2 is excellent. It feels great in the hand, like a quality device that you know will last.

Regarding the first change, as we're focusing on the device in general, we can mention the increased battery capacity. While the previous capacity wasn't small (2800mAh), the folks at Vaporesso have decided to boost it to 3200mAh. That extra 400mAh can be really beneficial for a few extra DL puffs or many more if you're vaping in MTL.

Now, let's move on to the aesthetics. The device generally maintains its thick, voluminous stick shape, along with those well-defined lines. At the top, we find the button, which activates the following functions:

- 5 clicks to turn your device on or off.
- 3 clicks to change the device's wattage. This change is made using two touch-sensitive buttons at the bottom, and they activate very well. The wattage increases or decreases in 1W increments.
- 2 clicks to access the customization menu, from which you can access basic settings (puff reset, brightness, LED activation/deactivation, factory reset), PULSE, ECO, SMART modes, and finally, UI themes.

We'll talk a bit more about PULSE, ECO modes, and the smart function later.

Something I love about this Luxe XR Max 2 is its central part, as you can almost see its inner workings through it. This section also houses the screen, which has seen a significant improvement compared to its predecessor.

Finally, regarding this image, I want to talk about the finishes, especially the color. The color finishes are simply incredible. Some editions feature a matte finish that gives it an impressive look.

Let's talk about the information displayed on the screen, as well as the PULSE, ECO modes, and the SMART function we mentioned earlier.

The first thing I noticed about this device's screen compared to the previous one is a definite increase in brightness. The screen feels much cleaner and brighter. We also can't overlook the advancement in the UI. We've gone from just numbers to not one, but several complete themes, each changing the color of the side LEDs. In my opinion, this is a clear step forward for Vaporesso.

As for the information displayed:

- Battery percentage, both with slots and a numerical value.
- SMART indicator (on or off).
- Vaping mode indicator.
- Wattage.
- Lock icon (we'll discuss this new feature later).
- Puff counter and puff duration.
- Ω indicator.

In this same image, you can see the LEDs on the sides of the front panel. These LEDs create an impressive ambiance and, in my opinion, add a very nice aesthetic touch. Something else I like is that they can be deactivated. The color of the LEDs is associated with the theme you choose:

- NEBULA: Sets the LEDs to a red spectrum.
- VITAL: Sets the LEDs to a spectrum between purple and blue.
- WAVE: Creates a transition between light blue and a slightly darker blue.

I don't have much more to say about this part of the screen. I simply notice a significant advancement in UI and overall design, in addition to basic screen characteristics like clarity, brightness, and resolution.

On the side, we find another change compared to its predecessor. While the Luxe XR Max already had ample airflow and good airflow control, its successor does even better. We can observe a complete redesign of the air intake. We no longer have a small and "ugly" button; instead, we have a proper, quite large slider. Something else I notice is an increase in the size of this air intake; it's significantly larger than before. Additionally, it's divided into two zones: a very small upper one, which can be useful as an indicator for MTL vaping, and a much larger lower one.

Something I would have loved and which would make this airflow regulation perfect would be a slightly stiffer slider, as I notice it moves with relative ease, and I'd prefer it to be firmer. Otherwise, I feel it filters the air much better and provides significantly improved results than the previous version.

On the opposite side, we only find a tiny circular hole, which I assume serves for a truly very restricted MTL vape, should one desire it.

On the bottom, we find another new feature, besides the charging port, of course. First, I'll talk about the charging port and battery life. The device features 5V/2A fast charging, which allows the 3200mAh battery to be fully charged in approximately 90 minutes. As for its usage time, using it in MTL at 16W, it lasted me almost three full days. When using a lower Ω coil at around 50-55W, it lasted almost an entire day. This is very, very good battery performance, comparable to any external battery mod.

Regarding this Luxe's new feature, we have a lock switch. This switch completely locks all device functions; you can only turn it on or off. I personally find this very convenient because when putting it in my pocket, I prefer to flip a switch rather than press the power button five times.

You can also see in the image how this bottom part has a rubber portion, very useful for preventing the device from slipping and falling on a flat surface.

Vaporesso further improves its entire cartridge and coil system, while maintaining the basic structure similar to the previous Luxe. This time, we have two cartridges: one for DL and one for MTL. There's no RDTL cartridge included this time, although I believe the one from the previous version is compatible.

Where the change is noticeable is in the introduction of the new dual mesh coils. It's somewhat similar to having a parallel coil system in an RDA, but with mesh, obviously. I've noticed an increase in flavor, though I can't say for certain if it's due to the airflow or the new coils. As for coil life, they've lasted me approximately 1 week, although this depends heavily on the e-liquid you're using, its sweetness, and your usage habits (time between puffs, etc.).

Definitely one of the best commercial coils out there.

As for the notable differences between the two cartridges, the main one is the size of the mouthpiece, both the outer ring and the inner opening. The MTL mouthpiece is much smaller, far more restricted, and if you look at its airflow inlet from underneath, you'll see it's also much more reduced. As for the DL, it has an airflow inlet almost twice as large and a much wider mouthpiece as well. Both have a 5mL refill capacity and are filled from the bottom by opening a small silicone flap. The coils are also inserted from the bottom and don't have a fixed position; they simply slide in. I recommend lightly saturating the cotton before inserting the coil.

Vaping Time
Now, let's get to the vaping experience and using the device. First off, I have to mention the difference in battery life with eco mode. You can genuinely feel it on this device, and it's one of the first times I've noticed such a significant increase in battery life on a device.

As for the flavor, what can I say? Vaporesso has simply improved these coils even further, which I find incredible since, in my opinion, they were already hard to beat. These coils, combined with the amazing airflow, deliver an impressive flavor. Even so, I've read about people complaining about the flavor from these GTX coils, and I don't understand their reasons. I've tried them with over four different e-liquids, and all of them have yielded good results, with great flavor and a very good amount of vapor.

Regarding the cartridges, each has its specific use, but the differences between them are very noticeable. I like that Vaporesso provides two cartridges aimed at two different types of customers; it significantly increases the device's versatility.

Everything has pretty much been said about the battery. Vaporesso improves in this aspect again by adding 400mAh, which might seem small but makes a noticeable difference.

Here's what, for me, prevents the Luxe XR Max 2 from being a perfect device: why no auto-draw? Let's face it, we all know how convenient it is to take a puff without having to press a button on certain occasions. Many times, I've gone to take a puff without pressing the button and realized it doesn't have auto-draw, even though it would be a very good feature, and many other Vaporesso devices implement it.

Conclusion
It's clear Vaporesso paid attention: they've boosted the battery, smoothed out the airflow control, and made the screen a pleasure to use with those cool new themes. Getting both DL and MTL pods right in the box, plus those awesome new dual mesh coils that deliver great flavor, shows they really care about giving you options. It's almost perfect with its solid build and handy lock switch, but honestly, the lack of auto-draw is a bit of a head-scratcher. It's such a convenient feature that we've all gotten used to. Still, it's a fantastic device that definitely lives up to its name.
