Vaporesso has become a household name in the vaping world and almost every vaper knows about this brand. What makes these guys stand out in a market that is rather competitive is their ability to manufacture some the most innovative mods of our time such as their popular release, the Armour Pro and Polar kit. The same can be said about their sub-ohm tanks which many vapers have found to offer superior lifespan when it comes to coils and performance in comparison to other brands. The Skrr Sub-Ohm Tank is the latest “flagship” Sub-Ohm Tank from Vaporesso, which features an 8mL juice capacity as well as their newly developed QF coil system and coil heads.

Vaporesso Skrr 5.jpg

The Skrr tank is a well designed, almost perfect product from Vaporesso and lives up to its claims of being leak-proof and spit back resistant by implementing the new QF Coil system however, this innovation is also its Achilles heel as it comes at a price of sacrificing flavor.

Packaging:

Vaporesso has been known for their exquisite packaging design. You can tell that Vaporesso does spend some time with packaging design as this tank comes securely packed in a beautifully designed box which opens like a jewelry box. Inside the box you will find the Skrr tank sitting in its compartment alongside an additional drip tip. In the lower section of the box you will find the accessories that come with the tank.
Vaporesso Skrr 1.jpg

Design:

The first thing you’ll notice with this tank is that it’s quite big measuring just short of 6cm in height with a 30mm diameter and looks similar to their NRG Tank with a few changes. If you’re wondering, this tank is taller than their previous tank, the Cascade which came with their newer kits and is even taller than the Augvape iNtake RTA. Due to it being a 30mm tank, you’ll probably need to make sure your current mod can handle the wider than normal tank diameter without overhang.

Starting at the drip tip, Vaporesso includes an 810 Resin Drip Tip in a colour scheme that matches perfectly with the 8 different colour options of the tank such as Green, Red, Black, SS, Blue, Bronze, Rainbow and Gold. This drip tip screws onto the tank and doubles as a top-fill locking mechanism which is a nice feature to have on a sub-ohm tank especially since it caters for the new vaper. As most of you might know, if your top fill isn’t closed properly, you do run the risk of the tank dumping all the juice because of the vacuum seal which is broken. By implementing the locking mechanism, your tank must be fully closed and therefore it leaves less room for user error. The locking feature is also a nice child-proof feature to have. This does make the filling process a bit more tedious as you would now need to unscrew the drip tip before refilling your tank. That said, you can swap out the standard 810 drip tips with your own preferred 810 drip tip but then you will not have the top-fill locking feature and some 810’s may not fit snug. Another thing to note is that you cannot use a 510 Drip tip with this tank as it has no adapter to cater for 510 drip tips.
Vaporesso Skrr 3.jpg

The top filling on this tank works flawlessly. If you have their drip tip on, you will first need to unscrew the drip tip before you can use their convenient ‘Slide-n-Fill’ top fill design.

I have the EU Edition and therefore instead of getting a replacement glass, I had a double walled glass. This does make it thicker and more durable than normal glasses. I’m not sure why a spare glass isn’t included but I guess it has something to do with TPD Regulations. I may be wrong though.

Coils:

Moving onto the main attraction, the coil head. Vaporesso launched a new line of coils for this tank called the QF Coils and currently, there are 3 options to choose from:
Vaporesso Skrr 2.jpg

  • QF Meshed flax fiber/cotton 0.2-ohm coil: Rated for 50-80 watts, best at 65-75 watts (included)
  • QF Strip flax fiber/cotton 0.15-ohm coil: Rated for 50-80 watts, best at 65-75 watts (included)
  • SK CCELL ceramic/SS316 0.5-ohm coil: TC compatible, rated for 50-70 watts, best at 55-65 watts (included)
The QF coils are wicked with a combination of flax fiber and cotton which increases the lifespan of the coils as well as provide a more ‘cleaner’ flavor. For those of you who do not know what flax is, flax fiber is extracted from the flax plant. It is stronger than cotton fiber, but less elastic. It is typically used in the high-quality paper industry for the use of tea bags, printed banknotes, rolling paper for cigarettes/tobacco etc.

QF Airflow and Coil System:

The coils are designed to prevent leaking and spit-back due to the QF Coils bullet shaped design, and they do an excellent job at this. No matter what I did, this tank never leaked. Even when travelling, refilling, or over-priming on purpose, not a single drop of liquid leaked out and even when heavily saturated, it still didn’t spit. The trapezoid shaped airflow inlets do allow for a lot of air to be taken in, but I have found it to be quite noisy. The noise just gets worse as you close off the airflow more.

The QF Coil system works as follows, air enters through the trapezoid shaped airflow at the base of the tank and then the air enters the inner positive post (Gold Post/Pin) located at the center of the coil head which has airflow holes at the top of the pin/post. The air is then directed horizontally towards the surface of the mesh coil. Any liquid that would’ve leaked out would now fall back down onto the base of the coil and then get re-absorbed by the cotton (The Gold Post in the coil has airflow holes at the top so that juice cannot enter those holes and leak out).

Performance:

The Skrr tank was easy to set up and use. As soon as I got it, I didn’t need to tinker with anything. All I did was prime the coil head, fill up the tank and vape away.

Vaporesso’s claims of this tank being leak-resistant and spit-back free is accurate as I can honestly say that I have not experienced a single drop of leaking. This is definitely a big pro! I like that Vaporesso has implemented an innovative and unique design to the tank that I’ve never seen done before.

The tank came pre-installed with the QF Strip coil which did perform great. I found both coil heads to be best at high wattages like 65-75w. However, Vaping at these wattages you do go through juice fast so even at 8mL you will find yourself refilling throughout the day.

I have used about 80mL of juice on the strip coil before experiencing degradation of flavor. After 80mL it was still usable but there was definitely a noticeable drop in the flavor department. I was using a sweet juice too, so I would say the lifespan is pretty decent.

Moving onto flavor. The flavor I got off this tank was pretty good/’Okay’ but it’s not the best I’ve experienced from a mesh tank as it seemed a bit muted. At first when I used this tank I did notice it so I compared it side by side with the Cascade tank with a mesh coil installed. What I noticed was that while I could taste the flavor, it just wasn’t as potent or ‘full on’ in comparison to the Falcon and the Cascade. This drop in flavor is most probably going to be due to the QF Coil System. By preventing spit-back and leaking, the air now has a longer distance to travel and this is causing it to slack in the flavor department. That said, it is by no means the worst flavor I’ve gotten off a sub-ohm tank, it just wasn’t ‘amazing’ flavor. I would really like to see bigger and more coil options become available for this tank. By having multi-mesh coil configurations like the Falcon, the Skrr might just be able to produce flavor as good as the big names in the market.
Skrr Coil.jpg
Conclusion:

All in all, I like the direction that Vaporesso is heading towards with their new QF Coil system and airflow design. While the QF Coil & Airflow design does work in preventing leakage and spit back, it does take away from the flavor. Vaporesso have got everything about this tank done right but it just needs some work to prevent the muting of flavor. That said, the flavor isn’t terrible, it is just not as good as the other options in the market, including their previous mesh tank. Maybe if Vaporesso releases multi-coil configuration (Dual, Triple, Quad) coil heads for the Skrr tank, it will be able to produce flavor as good, if not better than the other top sub-ohm tanks in the market.
Vaporesso Skrr 4.jpg

Pro’s:
  • Leak-resistant and Spit-back free design
  • QF Coil system works well in preventing leaking
  • Massive juice capacity
  • Extremely user friendly with little/no room for user error.
  • Good amount of vapor production
  • Decent coil lifespan
  • Good flavor
  • Excellent build quality
  • Reverse threading
Cons:
  • Can’t use 510 drip tips
  • Only 3 QF Coil options are available
  • Flavor isn’t as good as I expected it to be
  • TPD Version of this tank does not include a spare glass
  • Airflow is noisy

Disappointing to find yet another review of this tank's flavor ability to be somewhat negative. Really had high hopes for this tank. I have the NRG and Cascade. The NRG is my baseline tank for comparing flavor performance of other tanks. The Cascade with the GT Mesh provides similar/same flavor as the NRG but too many parts for s simple sub-ohm tank also not a fan of not being able to see juice level in the reservoir.

I agree Vaporesso is a top company and produces great products. Very happy with my 3 Revenger Xs and 5 NRG tanks (3 different versions of the NRG, whats the story with this). The Mesh coils are the best. Love the flavor and longevity of the GT Mesh coil. SO far the only tank/coil equaling the NRG for is the Freemax Mesh Pro double and triple coils.

Watching to see how they fix the flavor issue on the Skrr. I applaud them for being innovative. Just not going to buy a tank that does not equal or out perform the NRG for flavor.

Thanks for the review.

I have their Cascade and that tank is really awesome. When comparing the Cascade to this, there's no debating which one gave better flavor. I really wanted to like this tank but there's no overlooking this fact.

With this tank, they have got everything done right besides the flavor.

I like that Vaporesso thought outside the box and put in an innovative coil head which makes it different from other tanks in the market but they just need to find a way to make these coil heads be able to retain its full flavor.

At the moment they only have 3 types of coils available for this tank but I'm sure if they try out other coils like triple it quad mesh configurations they might be able to get this tank to be a bit more flavorful.

As it stands, I don't think this should be included in their mod kits until they find a way to prevent it from muting the flavor.

Have you tried a GT Ccell in TC mode yet? I just ordered the kit so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I think Vaporesso actually listens to user's complaints (reviews) and are probably already working on a fix for the coil's lack of flavour. It's been mentioned in every review I've read so far.

I haven't tried the GT Coil in it. I think I do have a GT CCell coil with so I will give that a try when I get back home (tomorrow). After testing it out I will get back to you with feedback.

The GT Coil heads work flawlessly in the Skrr tank. In my opinion, the GT Coils seem to provide a much better flavor than the QF coil heads but using these coil heads means that you will lose the spit back resistant feature. That said, I personally did not experience any spit back issues.

The QF coils are definitely responsible for the muting of flavor. A few days back I found someone on reddit who had a similar experience and found the Skrr to be having sub-par flavor. As a test, he pried out the gold 'bullet' shaped post from the coil head and tested out the same QF coil without the bullet post and according to him there has been a noticeable increase in flavor production.

If you have the Luxe mod with the Skrr tank I would suggest using the GT coil heads until Vaporesso figure out a way to prevent the loss of flavor caused by the QF coils design.

I was hoping to find this post or similar tonight. Ready to order a replacement NRG tank and thought if someone had tried an NRG coil in the Skrr and it worked I would order the Skrr to take advantage of the 8ml capacity.

I prefer the GT Mesh vs GT Ccell but going to assume if you had good results with any GT Cell it will translate to success for me with a GT Mesh.

Thanks for the post.

I did have success with the GT CCell. They worked well here. It is only the QF coil heads that seemed to be slacking in flavor due to the gold 'bullet' post in them. A guy on reddit removed the bullet post from his QF coil and found that the flavor improved when the bullet post was removed.

If the 8mL juice capacity is what you are after, I'd say get this tank and use it with the GT Coils.

I have tried the cCell in TC – the results were not great. The coil is SS but it heats a ceramic element which in turn is what vaporizes the juice. The juice does not touch the SS coil. The correlation between the ceramic and SS is, IMO, not optimized for TC

Have you used the SK CCell or the GT CCell? I haven't tried it out in TC mode because I'm not a fan of TC but in normal wattage mode it did perform quite good. Not as good as the mesh but still good. I find mesh coils to be my happy place when it comes to sub-ohm tanks.

I did order it. I will use the GT Mesh coils with it. Should be here Friday.
Please do let us know your experience with it. Using the GT Coils you should have a good experience with this tank. IMHO it's the QF coils that spoiled my experience with this tank. It did a good job at everything else besides flavor but with the GT coils I could at least replicate the Cascade experience. On a side note, it may just be me but I find mesh coils work best with desserts, bakery and those kinds of flavors and the CCell does a good job with fruits.

For example I was using Jam Monster e-liquid and it tasted better for me when I used the mesh coils instead of the CCell. That said, it is subjective and may not apply to everyone.

Only used the GT Core cCell. The Skrr just reached the Canadian market so availability is still a bit limited.

I recall seeing a SK cCell but can’t seem to find it on Vaporesso’s site anymore. Non the less, it still operates the same as the GT cCell in where the ceramic heating element vaporizes the juice and that the coil is just used to heat the ceramic. As I am sure you know, TC works based on the rise of resistance which is affected by the amount of juice/saturation of your wick that is in contact with the coil. The more juice or saturation, the cooler the coil and less rise in resistance so TC maintains its power output. With a cCell, the juice/wick is not in contact with the coil – it is in contact with the ceramic heating element which I am going to assume has different temperature properties than a SS coil. Although I have not bothered to investigate this further.

I actually really enjoy the GT cCell – makes for a great low wattage vape. Although I do feel the Mesh excels in flavour (as subjective as that may be!). I don’t have much fruit flavours (I like my deserts!!), but do shadow your thoughts on fruit flavours seem to taste better on a cCell than the GT Mesh.

You own the Cascade or Cascade Baby (or both)? There has been much discussion on whether the new QF coils will fit the Cascade Baby/NRG tanks (almost positive they will not fit the Cascade GT adaptor). Wondering if you have tried. Just curious.

Yeah mt experience with the CCell coils has always been better with fruits than other flavors. Personally, the CCell coils aren't my favorite but the mesh coils is what I love to use in these tanks. Ever since I started playing with mesh sub-ohm tanks, I don't think I'll ever move to something like a TFV8 or similar which uses normal wire.

I do have the Cascade tank and a QF Coil. I don't know why I haven't thought of putting the QF Coil in the Cascade before but I will test that out now and see if it fits however, I do have a suspicion that it may not fit due to the size of the QF coil heads but I will try that out now and let you know.

I noticed the same thing. If you go to Vaporesso.com/Atomizers/Skrr, after the first paragraph is a video link. The Skrr SK Ccell is shown there. Apparently, Vaporesso has pulled the SK coil for some reason. Maybe without the airflow deflector, it didn't provide anything that the GT Ccell couldn't do just as well. Or maybe they just got really bad reviews for the SK coil.

I just tried the strip coil and I thought the flavour was ok. Cloud production was pretty good. I'm prepping a mesh coil so I'll see how that does. I really like the mod, it's fun to play with and the display is really bright even though I haven't been outside with it. The reviewers complaining about the drip tip and the front panel being a fingerprint magnet is just nitpicking. It takes 2 seconds to unscrew the tip and you can rub the front panel on your shirt or pants and the fingerprints are gone, which also takes about 2 seconds.

And you can use a 510 drip tip, you just have to get an 810 to 510 adaptor.

I've tried out the QF coil in the Cascade. It didn't work out. The QF coil screws in but due to it being massive (the diameter of it and height) you won't be able to close the tank.

Yeah there was definitely an SK CCell. I see they removed the SK CCell and went with the GT CCell. I think this is a better move for them.

If you want the best experience with the Skrr, use the GT Coil heads or if you want, pry out the airflow deflector (gold pin/post/bullet) and you should be able to get an increase in flavor.

It is possible to use 510 drip tips using your own adapter but not everyone will have these lying around. That said, I don't think this tank is meant for a 510 tip. It would look odd and you may get a drop in the amount of airflow available.

How has your experience with the Skrr tank been?

My Skrr tank showed up today.

First thing I checked was coil compatibility between the Skrr and the NRG tanks.
1) NRG GT Core coils do fit the Skrr.
2) Skrr QF coils do not fit the NRG or the Cascade tanks
a) QF coils will not screw in to the base of the NRG. Appears the diameter of the coil base is to large to allow the coil to be inserted deep enough to allow the threads to engage. The coil will screw on to the chimney.
b) The base of the cascade tank is not threaded so no way to screw the QF coil in to the base. The QF coil will fit into the GT adapter top half but due to the size of the base of the QF coil the lower half of the GT adapter will not fit.
3) I did not have any Cascade coils to try in the Skrr. I assume since the Cascade are not threaded there would be no point in trying.
Note: I have not vaped with the Skrr with a NRG coil yet but assume from the way it went together all will be fine. I want to try the QF coils first just for S&G.

The glass tubes on the Skrr and the NRG appear to be identical, as do the replacement o-rings. Did not open o-ring pack to verify. If it's a burning question for someone I will verify it, just reply here and let me know you want me to verify. I think this means you could use the bubble glass from the Skrr to make the NRG 8ml.

I pushed the gold pin/bullet out of the QF coil. I can see a line at the base of the pin that leads me to believe it is simply press fit in. If that is the case should be able to remove it with a pair of pliers and a twist. I'll try that after I use up the QF coil I have in now.

I like to prime my coils from the inside and watch the juice flow holes on the outside of the coil to saturate to let me know the cotton is fully primed. With the QF coil there isn't much cotton visible so a little messy to prime quickly. Not a big deal just what it is.

No thoughts on flavor or anything else still slowly breaking in the QF coil.

P.S. I bought the kit Luxe & Skrr. The Luxe has a firmware update. Have not figured out yet what the firmware update corrects, adds, etc...

I've been vaping the Skrr with the QF Meshed coil for about 24 hrs now. Starter it at 27W now up to 53W. I will push a couple more watts yet until I find the sweet spot. Moving slow in increasing wattage since I don't have any experience with these coils.

Using Grape Ape from Bubble Gang because 1) I know the flavor well and 2) it's not a strong flavor. I have some grape flavor happening, it's muted but it's there. I expected there would be no flavor, based on the reviews, so pleasantly surprised to have any flavor. It took close to a full tank to get the flavor. On my fourth refill now (30ml +/-).

Going to pull the gold pin out after another couple tanks to see how that impacts the flavor.

If the coil holds up over time, I would consider it an acceptable backup choice to Vaporesso's GT Mesh and Freemax's Mesh coils. It has less flavor than either of those but more flavor than I found with Geekvape's Aero Mesh coils.

The Skrr has performed flawlessly otherwise, primarily meaning no leaks. I've taken it from the AC to the hot Tampa sun which always causes leaks with my Freemax Mesh Pro, I've carried it sideways in my pants pocket, laid it on it's side, etc... I'm a fan of any tank that doesn't leak. If this continues I will order a couple more just for the 8ml capacity.

Obviously, flavor is the most subject characteristic of vaping so others may find the QF to perform better or worse than I have so far.

I like the Luxe mod 1) I can turn the clock display off completely, 2) I can set the screen display time out to 5 seconds (2 would be better), 3) Its just a little bigger than my Revenger X - feels good in the hand. Weight seems close to that of my Legend.

That is exactly what I've experienced with flavor as well. I can taste the flavor but it's not 'full'. It's definitely not no flavor at all, it's just not as good flavor as the GT Coils.

Everything about this tank is done really well, Vaporesso just need to find a way to design those coil heads to be as flavorful as their GT Coils and then this tank will be that much better and an excellent addition to their starter kits.

This tank is pretty leak resistant and I haven't managed to get it to leak at all. Whenever you device to change coils or clean the tank, remove the coil and wipe up the base. I find that little juice/condensation does collect here.

Try out the GT coils and let us know if you have the same positive experience as I did.
