For just over 10 yrs. now, volunteers have been erecting this 'temporary' Memorial every Sunday, on the North side of the Santa Monica Pier... and it is there for all to see from Sunrise to Sunset.

But on Memorial Day, they also place candles there for a really special tribute...

You didn't say what century.

The first memorial day started in 1865 in Charleston by former slaves who gave union soldiers that died as POW there a proper burial in thanks for their freedom, known as 'Decloration Day". 25 cities followed in tribute to Union soldiers. In 1886, southern women begain "Memoral day" to honor confederate soldiers and the year after that it was proclaimed a day to honor all those who'd fallen in the civil war. It became a federal holiday many years later, in 1967.

This just squeaks in by being released in 1979, but it was [loosely] based on the 1973 Rock Opera by The Who... :D

Alternative Trailer (short ver.): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c24CN-_Hqtk

I went to see it with a British friend of mine, who was there at Brighton Beach during the clash between the Mods and the Rockers!!

We are still friends after all these years, and he not only remembers going to see this movie together, but that it was also on the same bill with 'The Kids Are Alright'... of course, he's an old fart now... LOL!!
