"Wolf"/"Krazee" . . .
I hope this is Okay to post - if not please let me know and I will of course delete it . . .

Info Request form all you "Computer"/"Network"/"IT" People . . .

I have a Friend that needs to boost the WiFi signal from inside their home to one of the outside building that is approximately 1000+ feet away . . . They are using a WiFi router supplied by their local phone company (BTW - it is not a major known company) . . . Oh yea - they can connect to the router when they are outside the building, but once they are inside the signal is broken . . . So what would be the best inexpensive WiFi Router Booster that would help them . . . AND - Hopefully one that is easy enough for even a complete "n00b" to install and set-up (think of a five year old learning for the first time how to do this ;) . . . I do not want to take over the thread so please PM me - Thanks for any information you can send me . . . :D

You could always pick up an old router off craigslist and turn it into a wifi repeater. That could be placed somewhere in the other building, in a window or something where it could reach your main router.

Uncle, there are a couple of ways your friend can go about it. They could spend $50-$60 & purchase a "real" signal amplifier like these: Amazon.com: Amped Wireless High Power 1000mW Wi-Fi Signal Booster (SB1000): Electronics (<- This would be my choice) or Amazon.com: Hawking HSB2 HiGain Signal Booster: Electronics ... or they could try a low-budget mod first - which is just a parabolic reflector. A beer can mod: Boost Your WiFi Signal Using Only a Beer Can : Discovery Channel or one made from paper & aluminum foil: The Windsurfer Ez-12 (There are youtube videos he can watch that demonstrate "how to".) I used the beer can mod on my old Linksys wireless -G router to reach the guest house. My new wireless -N router doesn't seem to need it.

Good luck!

Yeah, I read that a while back. My old router is the WRT-54GL they mentioned. I've even D/L-ed DD-WRT, but never got around to flashing it. Mostly because my new D-Link N router provided better range than the Linksys.

I saw that article and was thinking of trying it myself.
