Sweet Homecoming

So, I'm writing this review because I think I have finally found the holy grail of wood mods. The story of how I got there is a little long, so please bear with me. If you don't have the time, just skip down to the TLDR and go from there.
I've been vaping for a little over 15 months, and in that time I've owned more than a few PVs, some of which I think are some of the more popular "IF YOU OWN THIS YOU WILL NEVER LOOK BACK" APVs out there. I started out like most, with a cigarette look alike. I grudging moved to a VV device because I knew, for me at least, an 3.7v device wasn't going to cut it. I mostly say grudgingly because I'm a chick, and a pretty small chick at that, and I really didn't wan't to vape on what amounted to vaping on something the size of a car tail pipe. So I went kicking and screaming into the world of variable voltage and bought a "insert name of very well known and well respected vv tube mod here".
Well, let me tell you… car tail pipe, Jedi knight sword, flashlight… whatever you want to call it, I called it heaven. One puff and I was in love. I knew right them I would never go back to my cigarette look alike, or my eGos, or GoGos or whatever the latest and greatest gotta have it 3.7 device was. I was hooked on variable voltage. What I wasn't hooked on was the form factor of a tube mod. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my "insert name of very well known and well respected vv tube mod here". I have a lot of them. I use them all the time. There is one one big problem with them in my eyes. They're sterile, cold, industrial, a million of a kind. If you love organic things they way I do, a tube mod leaves you wanting just a little, or a lot, more.
So I looked around… and I purchased… several different wood mods. All variable voltage, because that after all was my holy grail. I purchased some that were just pumped out, same as the next guy, wood mods. I purchased some that were custom made just for me, pick the wood, pick the inlay, pick exactly what you want, take 3 months to delivery mod. They were all really nice, and they all pretty much worked just as well as my vv tube mods worked, but even the ones that were customized felt a lot like my tube mods… kind of… just… production line… So I sold them, and I stuck to my "insert name of very well known and well respected vv tube mod here", and I was happy. Kind of.
Then I came across a wood worker who was making mods for the sheer pleasure of dreaming up new and beautiful creations. A guy who didn't want to compromise the beauty of what he wanted to create in favor of pumping out a bunch of rounded off square rectangles. A master craftsman who wanted to share his love of wood and his excitement over vaping with the rest of us. I came across woodboy, aka Gary, of VaporWoods mods.
Every single one of the mods he creates are unique, and individual and well… just wow. Even when he creates a rectangular box, and he never creates just a rectangular box, there is just something so special about it that it makes you wish you had unlimited funds so you could add it to your collection. And still, even with all the beautiful mods he had, all the unique and interesting shapes, all the beautiful creations, I hesitated. Why? Because I'm a dope, well yes, but no... I hesitated because they were all 3.7v, and after all, we all know vv is the holy grail of vaping. Right? No! Wrong. Okay… for me… mostly right but kinda wrong.
For some of you, you already discovered a long time ago what I just recently "discovered", even though I really knew it all along. There are so many cartomizers and atomizers out there at varying ohms, that you can pretty much achieve the perfect vape on a 3.7v device, same as a vv device. My problem… okay… MY problem with that… I have one carto that I like to use. I'm a tank person. I will switch between 2Ω and 3Ω sometimes, but other than that I am a one setup kind of gal. I want to stick the carto, that I have 100 of, in a tank, fill the tank up with juice, stick it on my APV and vape, and I want it to be perfection, every time.
Okay, by now you're wondering what all of this has to do with finding my holy grail of wood mods. So I'll tell you...
TLDR...
I guess most of us who have decided to venture into the world of wood mods, or other types of APVs have determined that we like vv vaping. Whatever those reasons are, right, wrong, misguided… whatever, we don't want a 3.7v mod. That's how I first felt when I saw the VaporWoods mods. They are gorgeous, unique, individual, beautiful and there are 3.7v. Hmmm... But… they are also kick'able. Now, if you are a lover of beautiful things, handcrafted wood, AND variable voltage/wattage you can have the best of all those worlds. You will have a work of art, an organic wood mod, a piece that is unique, and you will enjoy all of that plus variable wattage vaping at the same time. Gary is even making some of his newer mods kickable with an 18650 battery, so you don't have to sacrifice one second of battery life.
The VaporsWoods mod I have is 3.7v with an 18650 battery, or variable wattage with a "kick" and an 18500 battery. I chose one particular VaporWoods mod because it appealed to my quirky, yet practical side.
I chose Sweet.
She is made up of rosewood, ebony and mahogany. The connection is recessed and big enough for a tank, and she even has her own built in rest so you can lay her down and keep the button from firing. The battery door is held on with four powerful magnets, and the tolerances are just right. You can tell that Sweet was made by loving masterful hands with the intent that she be functional and used daily, but that she also be appreciated for her design, beauty, and craftsmanship.
The angled recessed tank is really genius. The position of your hand and the of the mod itself feels so natural when you're vaping, the tank is in the perfect position. The smaller dimensions of the mod are perfect for my little hands, and yet it feels sturdy enough in my husbands bear paws. The mod itself feels like you're holding a stick of butter. It's smooth, and soft and even though it's squared off, and the contours fit perfectly in my grip.
Gary even went above and beyond in customer service. When I first got Sweet, the grounding plate for the kick was positioned just a hair too low. It would work 99% of the time, but every once in a while I would jiggle it and the kick would slip and it would lose contact with the ground. Not a big deal. Just open the door and reposition the kick,a two second operation right? Well yes, but no… Gary insisted that I return Sweet to him. He said, "If you have to fiddle with it, you won't use it and I want you to use it". He had it only a few days before sending it back to me, and now the position of the grounding plate is just perfect.
Oh, and in case you were wondering. VaporWoods mods work perfectly without the kick too. If you have a few different cartos or attys at different omhs, or you've found you like all of your juices at about the same wattage and you an achieve that wattage with a carto or atty you like, the VaporsWoods will not disappoint. It hits hard at 3.7v, and it feels great and looks beautiful while it's doing it.
The only thing I'm struggling with now is which VaporWoods mod am I going to purchase next. Sweet needs a friend!
