What up gang.

I'm looking for a variable voltage mod.

In playing with my 5V passthrough, I've come to find liquids will taste better, produce more throat hit, and vapor on a normal resistance atty then on the eGo. Note that I've been using a LR atty on the eGo to get me into a lower nic level with the same throat hit. I'm beginning to understand the "sweet spot" of liquids I've heard others talk about.

I like the Pro-Vari, but don't really need that much adjust-ability. I also like the Darwin, but IMHO the price it outrageous.

And finally, I don't want to have to open the case and mess around with a tiny pot screw.

Are there any other simple, more cost effective variables out there with maybe an external switch that will give me 3.7, 4.4, 5, & 6V?

Also want the batts to last all day.

Thanks!

+1 for the Provari. I got mine last week and have been loving it. Changing the settings becomes very second nature. Its nice to have the ability to precicely change the voltage. Its the only mod I've ever had so I can't really compare. Though I don't see myself needing to replace this one for a long long time. Its built like a tank!

Also, they will be releasing a black version and chrome version in the near future. They said in the next couple of weeks. There is a picture of the black one in the long provari sticky thread in the provape section of the forums. It will be an extra 20 bucks i think they said for the color options. I really like the standard stainless steel though. It has a nice texture for grip but still looks shiny and sleek.

Just my opinion, but I think you should still consider the Darwin. The price point isn't that much more expensive than the ProVari, especially when you consider that you'll probably want to buy all the extras for the ProVari; batteries, extension cup, charger...unless you already have the charger and batteries. The Darwin is a pretty much self contained unit and also operates as a PT.

I chose the wait for the Provari over the wait for the Darwin, thinking that I would get the Darwin later, and use my second favorite of the two as a backup for the favorite. After a few days with the Provari, however, I ordered a second Provari. I just don't see how vaping could get any better than: 1. All the throat hit I can stand and more 2. Great flavor 3. All the vapor I want 4. Built tough 5. 12 month warranty 6. Built-in battery tester for all of my big batteries (I hear that the Darwin only tests its own built-in battery) 7. The all-important built-in resistance tester for my attys and cartos. I figure, how could the Darwin be better than that?

I'd also consider few slight drawbacks to the Darwin,

1) Batteries die with time and the Darwin does not have a user replaceable battery.
2) The Darwin has moving parts. Moving parts break over time.
3) I've read that the Darwin's threads are not as good as the Pro-Vari.

Considering the popularity of these two mods, it's only a matter of time that similar mods with variable voltage settings, digital displays, etc, etc become available.

Also, don't forget about our Asian friends and how good they are with electronic devices. It's only a matter of time before they see the market, ramp up, and provide low-cost Provari and Darwin knockoffs.

I think I'll sit and wait with my eGo and 5V passthrough for a while because with competition comes lower prices.

I have Darwin, but can't make comparisons to ProVari since I haven't used that mod. So far, I find Darwin to be an excellent device. Well manufactured, solid as a rock, adjustable power, self-adjusting voltage based on resistance of atty (temperature can vary the resistance) to give you consistent flavor/vapor. I did have some issue with the connector being too tight, but it got better after using it. Perhaps the thread got looser as I used it more. I hear that Evolv (company that makes it) is going to improve that in future models. One charge lasts more than a full day on relatively heavy vaping, so battery is extremely good. While the battery can only be replaced by Evolv, it should last just as long as those batteries in iPhone and other similar devices (2 year warranty). One more thing about Darwin is that it looks nothing like other mods. It looks more like MP3 player, which is kinda cool too. Highly recommended.
