I'm not sure what you actually call it but it was a chap in Louisiana who first introduced me to it roughly 7 years ago.
I'll give you Webster's definition........
"lagniappe or lagnappe n. 1. a small gift given by a merchant to a customer for making a purchase. 2. a gratuity; tip"
I really enjoy the sellers who take a moment to do this. It may be a marketing plot but I'm lead to believe it's just a gift for choosing them & their way of saying "thanks!". I've purchased from half a dozen so far & only 2 have done this with my order.
