Here is a charger I believe every vaper should own.. Read the specs on this device. This charger could have probably kept this battery from venting..

A good charger goes hand in hand with good IMR batteries..

Looks nice for sure.. I wonder how it "revives overly discharged batteries"? Like it states. We all know we're not supposed to discharge a battery past a specific factory set point... And if you do, your battery would go into thermal run away and vent. It also majorly damages the cells, so much so that if you end up running it down to, let say 1volt. You should just throw the thing away right then and there. I wonder how this charger fixes that, or if I'm reading into it wrong.

I have heard these chargers are highly regarded and I only glanced through the specs ... however, would this charger be recommended for charging batteries with torn wraps?

Not in my opinion and I own one of those chargers. I wouldn't do anything with a battery except re wrap it if it had any amount of damage. I am I guess a little hard on my batteries or something when putting them in devices and taking them out I suppose (or used to be should I say) cause I would notice nicks here and there. I repair them in 3 minutes or less its simple and practically free. Do it.

I would like to comment on the OP opinion about battery safety being overkill and fear mongering.

If the battery had vented in your hand and you were rushed to the ER with severe battery burns.

Nobody would hear about it ... they would patch you up and send you home ... no different than if you chopped your foot off cutting your lawn.

You venting your first battery because you were careless, and even if you hurt yourself ... it's not news that people care about or would even report about.

So I'm told - caustic burns are much worse than acid burns, and the ulceration can take years to heal. An accident with lithium isn't so trivial as to be so easily dismissed.

In any case of battery venting - the charger should probably be suspected (and checked) - even a small overvolting can leave the cell in an unstable condition.

The charger is fine. I was on my way out the door with the charger in hand and battery still in it. Hand put pressure on the battery and caused the charger contact to short on the battery.

I appreciate all of the feigned concern for my and nonexistent others' safety, but the fact of the matter still stand at I put off ordering some wrap due to the whole 'if its not broke, don't fix it' mentality. Stuff happens, small lesson learned.

LOL! - It just wouldn't charge it if it reads a short in it..
The charger is also fire/flame proof, I'm not sure if it will melt though..

Oh, no it was and is real. Even when you're behaving with lines like that I chalk it up to getting defensive and passive-aggressive after reading post after post ragging on you. We cool, and it'll all pass, you aren't being voted off the island mate.

Though to put our cards on the table, after lines like that the sympathy has rapidly dissipated, and once everything has cooled in your head I'd encourage you to rethink how you're approaching lithium batteries for your safety, others safety, and (this one is selfish) helping avoid negative headlines.
