hi all,

recently picked up an igo-l and jumped into the world of RBAs. i did it mostly just because i wanted something to test flavors with (recently picked up the sample pack from AiV), but would like to eventually graduate to a genesis tank.

so i did my first coil using 32 gauge wire and 2mm silica wick. managed to get 2.2 ohm resistance out of it with 4-5 wraps. everything seems to fire well, no hot spots (the coil glows from the center out). pretty satisfied, i drip a few drops of liquid onto the coil, cap it, stick a drip tip on it, and prepare myself. i've heard that drip RBAs give the best flavor so i'm a bit excited.

i take a pull and...i get the flavor, but it's muted and i notice a strange flavor accompanying it. it doesn't necessarily taste burnt, but it feels like i'm tasting some of the wick. it also leaves a dry cotton-like feeling in my mouth.

am i missing something with this? i did everything out of the box if that means anything; some videos mention the weird taste and recommend boiling or torching the wick prior to use, but if not it'll go away after a few hits. i've been getting it pretty consistently after more than several vapes.

any help is appreciated!

First of all make sure you're not scorching your e-liquid. Try turning down the voltage/wattage if you're using a VW/VV device. Second of all make sure your not strangling your wick. You want to make sure you're wick is touching nicely inside the coils but it's not being choked. Thirdly I recommend using organic cotton wicks. I use them in my Igo-L and it's fantastic flavor and vapor production.

The Igo-L also has a nice drip well so feel free to drip about 6-10 drops directly in the well to make sure your wick is nice and saturated.

Hope that helps! GL

I use Ekowool on a KFL+ Clone (also to rebuid PT II and Mint PT II heads) and at first it tasted terrible. I boiled it and it tasted a little better. It wasn't until I torched the heck out of it with a butane torch that it really started tasting good (before building). Strangling the wick by wrapping your coil too tight can also cause you problems. Without tasting it, I'm not really sure what the problem is. Just thought maybe my experience with Ekowoll might help you. :vapor:

Cheers,
Steve

so i took a new wick and torched it a bit, then wrapped the coil a little more loosely (enough so i could slide it off with a bit of effort) and i'm happy to report that the flavor tastes great. it still leaves that dry feeling in my mouth compared to my tanks but i'm guessing that might be just the nature of the game?

@Wingsfan0310, I plan to pick up some ekowool; will probably be relatively soon as I've gone through a bit of my 3 ft. rope thus far trying to get this right.

thanks for all the help!

Your Welcome, glad to hear it tastes better. I know I was ready to toss my Ekowool before I started torching it. :D

Cheers,
Steve
