Hey all-

1st time poster here. I bought a 901 to quit smoking tobacco cigs. I smoke(d) maybe 6-10 cigs per day. Either Camel full flavor, or Bali Shag, which is a european hand-rolling tobacco. Usually the later. Pack of Camel non-filters here and there. So, I am used to smokes that pack a punch. Both in terms of nicotine and how they feel and taste.

For the last 2 days, I have been using the 901 with truevapor's "Turkish" flavor liquid in 36mg. I think I may step down to 24mg with my next purchase.

When I take a drag, the throat hit is almost unbearable. Feels like the back of my throat is being burned, and my lungs are exploding. It's very, very harsh to me. And this is coming from someone who could knock out a pack of non-filters in one night out. I can barely tolerate taking in even a small amount of vapor.

I hate to say anything negative about truevapor's product. Nathan was fast and helpful. Got my order from OR to VA in just a few days. I don't think this is an issue with the juice anyway. I think I may have some kind of sensitivity to the PG in the juice? Anyone else experience this? It's not the concentration of nicotine. I tried the 12mg in a fresh cart and got the same result.

Advice, recommendations appreciated.

Thanks,
Jake

Try cutting it with glycerine. You can find Wilton brand at most craft stores including Hobby Lobby in the cake icing spot, 2.00 for two ounces. I use a 50/50 cut with 36 mg stuff. Somtimes you might have to add flavoring if it becomes to weak so just try a ml or two for starters.

Cinnamon is pretty harsh to smoke, one drop ruined a 30ml mix once.

First off, drink plenty of fluids. It will clear your palate, cut down on cotton mouth, and may reduce the violent throat hit you are experiencing. Cut down the length of your draws, too. 36mg fluids can be harsh, but sure take the edge off a craving the first thing in the morning, so do not get rid of it.

You can cut down the strength of your smoking fluid as sharowdr recommends, but it will also reduce the flavor. Continue to sample other smoking fluids until you find the ones that fit your taste. Try different flavors as they can be very entertaining to the tastebuds, particularly when they start tasting again.

It could also be getting used to the drier vapor that you're now consuming...... vape is NOT the same as cig smoke...the mfg's of tobacco put all sorts of additives in tobacco to produce a smoother smoke that doesn't irritate the throat as much...PG doesn't have the additives...

Drink plenty of water, take smaller drags, puff a bit to get used to the vape before you inhale, and yes, cut down a bit on the nic. But, as others have said, high nic is good for those suprise cravings that hit with intensity, so keep it around to knock those down.

It does take a bit of time to get used to this...having to re-learn how to smoke after x# of years can be taxing, but stick with it and you'll be fine.

So you guys think it's cinnamon that gives it the harshness? I need to order some. Does Lorann's carry it, or you talking powder form.

I am going to try to track down some Loranns cinnamon to make up my own mix with. Like a tin of camel snus, a drop of cinnamon, a **** glass of PG. Someone posted a very simple recipe for making cold process e-juice with Camel snus. They already have some cinnamon in them but could do with a drop more :)

Thanks for the warning about using too much Cinnamon. Oils are not supposed to be good to put in an atomizer. Plus, it's so very strong to begin with.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems like a random pocket of good folks here on the internets.

Funny thing. I switched the atomizer out for a spare I bought. Smooth taste, no burning throat and big clouds of vapor... weird. I guess the one I've been using is defective. Functioning as it should, this is very satisfying. I can see myself being successful quitting tobacco this time.

It's most likely the primer juice that comes on 901 atomizers. Very nasty, and because you switched it, the other atomizer probably didn't have any primer liquid on it. Try boiling the nasty one, or soaking it overnight in Rubbing alcohol, then blowing it out, and letting it dry for a few hours, battery end up.

I have a similar problem, but I never considered the atomizer as the source. Plus, it wasn't like this at first. I got some Totally Wicked Tobacco flavored at 24 mgs and at first it packed a heck of a throat hit, but wasn't harsh. Just an almost physical feeling of KAPOW! in the throat when inhaled. Now, it's starting to be harsh and burn a bit, travelling down my throat like heartburn. Usually one or two Tums takes care of it (note that I've never had a problem with acid reflux, but do get the occasional bout of hearburn if I eat spicy foods). Anyway, the liquid itself tastes great, but this harshness is starting to really bother me. I've got some glycerin and I've tried cutting small amouts 50/50 with some success. However, the downside is the VG amps up the cotton mouth exponentially, and the flavor is reduced considerably. I'm still new to all of this, so I'll work out the right balance eventually. :) Lots of good info here to learn.

Anyway, I've also received some RY4, Coffee, and 555/State Express from Midwest Vapor in 36mg strength with the intent to cut them with VG as well. Just to see what they were like unaltered, I gave each a shot using a clean cart each time, and thoroughly rinsing and oven-drying the atomizer between each juice. The effects were the same. Good tasting juice, but murder on the throat and esophagus.

I'm thinking that in my case, it's the strength causing my side effects. Hope this helps!

Check your atomizer, and make sure it's not overheating. If it gets red-hot. then your using an atomizer that's not rated for a 6 volt setup. I found this out the hard way! I purchased a 6 volt Copper R2, and some Joye 510 attys from another seller. I was using my R2, only to find that I was getting some really nasty, metallic tasting hits! I pulled the cart off and activated the power. It was then that I noticed the atty was burning red-hot! I put on one of the 510 atty's that I got with the Copper R2, and it's working fine. : - ) I just hope I didn't damage my lungs?

I think that there really does need to be some kind of regulation/oversight concerning these products. At least enough to make sure people aren't getting hurt anyway. I may have just spent the better part of last night inhaling burnt solder? There was no instructions - or warning that came with the Copper R2 concerning using the right atomizer.
