Hi everyone. I am new to vaping. Purchased an EVO starter kit last weekend and haven't smoked a cigarette since. It was actually an accident, I was only looking for an option for at work and a coworker uses logic. So I picked up a few cigalikes and didn't like them. Then I went to a flea market with a booth in it for vaping and accidentally stopped smoking.

So, a week in and I want something with variable voltage. I don't think I want a twist. But I've been looking at a few options and it's very overwhelming. I don't think I should be building coils and things like that. I like the LCD options, and I like the EVO like batteries. My question is probably really stupid but what does Mod mean? Do you have to rebuild stuff with those. Or can you just fill a tank and go?

Mod is just a more custom, better performing alternative to cigarette sized ecigs, according to the link below. I am noob and read up on various mods people were enjoying and chose the MVP 2.0 and am very pleased with the choice, basically fill and go, and I don't plan on rebuilding anything in the near future.

"Mod" is a catch all term for an advanced personal vaporizer. These are generally battery tubes or boxes which are battery holders, which may have a microprocessor in them to allow variable voltage. If the mod doesn't have the microprocessor for variable voltage, it is considered to be a mechanical mod, which runs a fixed single voltage depending upon the voltage available in the battery.

The original mods were "modded" from flashlights back in the day, hence the name mod.

You don't have to use a rebuildable atomizer on a mechanical or regulated (variable voltage) mod. Juice attachments with factory-built coils can be used, however mechanical mods have had renewed popularity because of their ability to do sub-ohm coils in rebuildable atomizers.

Many people use clearomizers, cartomizers, cartotanks, and drip atomizers in mods - all of which are factory built. These are fill and go devices not requiring rebuilding skills.

There is two differents kind of mods :
- Mechanical mod : "Just" a battery tube that make contact with you atomizer. It's called mechanical, because there is no (or almost) electronic.
- Electronic mod : Mechanical mod features + Variable Voltage or/and Variable Wattage outpout

Oh partial to EVO type battery. A person mentioned the Sigelei-20W Variable Watt Mod in another thread. As far as coils, you can buy new ones pretty cheap. You don't have to build your own.

If you are looking for something variable with a screen and doesn't cost an arm and a leg you can look at the Innokin line of products. The SVD and MVP V2 are both solid contenders at a lower price point. The SVD was the first pv (personal vaporizer or mod) that I purchased and it worked for me until I ended up here and saw all the shiny fun things available for purchase.

Hi Normeka! I know where you went, because I went there too. I also quit "accidentally" because of that place. I'm over a year smoke-free thanks to the friendly folks at MM and even though I get most of my supplies online these days, I still pay them a visit and drop a few dollars there a couple times a month.

If you're looking to get into variable power devices, I would recommend the Innokin iTaste VV. The starter kit comes with some good clearomizers too, so you don't need to worry with rebuilding. My girlfriend loves her VV because she just wants something simple that gives her variable power and works consistently. If that's what you're in the market for, it might be the ticket!

Get an MVP2; or for something smaller the itaste vv v3 - that would be similar size as the battery that came in your evod kit; it has a screen and so you can check resistance, volts, watts.

mod - different people use it differently but around here usually refers to a tube or container for batteries;

with you evod tanks, you can either completely rebuild coils or just dryburn and rewick or partially rewick. Or you can just soak in hot water or vodka / everclear to keep them running longer.

A resounding +1 for the iTaste vv/vw v3 -- I got one 3 wks after I started vaping, and 2 wks after that bought a 2nd one, it's such a great and inexpensive device.

I haven't started rebuilding coils yet, but I might soon at least try it, because even though the coils are not expensive (DiscountVapers!!!!!), I do seem to use a lot of them, and it would be more cost effective to rebuild than to have to keep buying new -- I also hear that your own custom made coils are somehow better, though I have no idea *how* they're better; the cost-effective argument is really all I need to know. But I'm still in the process of accumulating all the appropriate "stuff" for the project, as well as still trying to build up my courage for a wholly new and unfamiliar undertaking.

Don't worry; there is a lot to learn, but there's no hurry; go at your own pace! That's the only way the switch really works, if you do it in the way that works for YOU!

Welcome to ecf Normeka Glaspie. Already got lots of help here. I just wanted to say how pleased I have been with my mvp2. Long battery life. Longer than anything I have so far. I just looked at mine and I have taken 1009 "toots" and I'm still in the green with 3.7 volts. I am a heavy vapor and use several different pv's during the day but I charge it about every 3 days. Out of all the stuff I have bought so far, this is something that I would replace tomorrow if it goes out.

The iTaste vv/vw v3 is a great suggestion. v3 and MVP2 were actually the final two mods on my list. Chose MVP2 because of the larger battery (can't risk running out), pass through (toke it while charging it) and can use the MVP2 battery to charge up my cell phone in emergency. Also thought I would outgrow the v3 quickly and it would be waste of money so stepped up one level higher from the get go.

MVP2 is bigger though, and for me it is only home or car use due to size, leaving me now shopping for a second stealthier option for more public use. All depends on your wants/needs.

The iTaste vv/vw v3 can also be used on pass-thru. At 800mAh, I leave it on pass-thru about 90% of the time, but it's usually good for several hours of fairly constant vaping before it gets to the point that *I* figure it needs to be plugged in again -- I try to not let it get below 3.9v, so I don't risk EVER coming close to fully discharging it, and thus never OVER-discharging it so it can't be charged again. I want these babies to LAST!

I can testify that Innokin ROCKS! I have the Cool Fire 2, VV/VW 3.0, and the VTR! I'm prob going to be picking up a couple of MVP 2.0's with the price as low as they are right now, to use as a battery bank in my portable take along kit, and a back up to my backup's backup ha ha! But seriously, GOOD STUFF! I don't care for their tanks, that's the only thing, not horrible, I just have had better luck, taste, ease of use with Kanger's Aerotank. Hope you find what you're looking for! Oh yeah, I got ALL of my Innokin's off of reputable sellers on Ebay as well as my Aerotanks at an EXCELLENT price, with FREE shipping, no need for coupons etc.! Just be careful and pay CLOSE attention to neg feedback, as I've gotten burned on a couple of vaping supply purchases I made on their such as receiving fakes and used stuff that was supposed to be new. It was eventually resolved but a hassle so now I'm a LOT more careful!

Whoops! Didn't realize that it had pass thru too. Maybe I will still get a v3 for my stealthier option. But then again....heard something today about a very small, very stealthy, and very cool microstick. I might be lurking the classifieds for one soon!

My advice is to skip mechanical mods & get something like an MVP 2 with a nice easy tank with a pack of extra heads (like an Aspire BDC). No fuss, battery lasts forever & taste pretty good.

Don't get too caught up in the scene too quickly. You'll have plenty of time for that. Right now you're just trying to find something that works well & gets you off the analogs for good.
