Let me preamble by saying I love vaping. I quit smoking the day my first e-cig showed up in the mail.

However, I have been very unlucky with my equipment, juices, etc.

Here is a brief (I hope) summary):

1) After realizing that the kit I purchased didn't last very long, I purchased a 901 kit from a very reputable vendor on this forum. In the first 3 days after receiving it I suffered a failure of both batteries. New batteries where shipped but the charger failed. Eventually this 901 kitbecame my favorite but the 2 batteries and the charger only lasted anotehr month, after that I decided to ditch the entire kit.

2) And I bought a eGo-T. I loved it the Ego T has worked until recently

3) Staying with the 501 "baseball bat" design I figured I needed more batteries, so I purchased a kit similar to the eGoT. this too worked great and now I had 2 chargers + the originals 501 charger for the skinny cigs (where the fatter cigs cannot fit).

4) As such, this whole thing lasted me about 2 months. Until I met a local retailer from whom I bought a single very large battery about as fat as the eGo-T but twice as long. I loved it. But it lasted only 2 days. After that it refused to charge any longer.
The interesting thing is that at the same time the eGo-T and the other kit that worked so well for two months also decided they didn't want to charge fully anymore.

5) during this whole ordeal I was also really unlucky with my atomizers, cartomizers and different types of sucking devices. The ones that came with the eGo-T got clogged a week later and I needed the lungs of Dizzy Gillespie to puff a drag. The regular atomizers I purchase at $7 a pop some last OK but many re either DOA or only last a few hours. With the third kit I bought I received 5 cartomizers since I really wanted to try them. The first worked pretty well for a while, then I decided to set up a second e-cig and I triedto assemble it with the other cartomizer from the new box. All DOA except the very last. 3 out of 5 with no sign of heat, sizzle let alone vapor.

6) I also purchased a Pass-through at some point to make sure that no matter what I would be able to vape. This week, after every single battery (or charger) failed on me or only keeps enough charge for 3 minutes (this is the current record) I have used it a lot more because it is the only functioning device I have. Naturally, it broke. At first I was able to rig it (the button had slid under the hole) but eventually it just got too trashed to work.

Naturally, it would be nice to know why all these batteries, purchased at different times, decided all to give up the ghost at the same time. I have just modded the original skinny cig charger so I can screw the fat batteries to it justto test if both of my chargers are maybe dead or malfunctioning. I will know more a bit later. For now, the first test resulted in a totally dead battery. It lights up the LED and stuff, but there is not a glimpse of heat anywhere with all my Attys. Currently I have the very long silver battery charging hoping that it was the charger.

The bottom line for me is to get a device that will not fail as frequently. In fact, I am not crazy about assembled batteries. I have been thinking of a Mod where I can use and charge batteries and stick them in the mod. At least I can test the batteries and purchase them cheaper than the ones that come with the Ego or the other e-cigs. Alas, I don't know what to buy. It should be a 501, it should take atty's and cartomizers but I have been so unlucky recently that I am afraid to choose anything. I will take your suggestions. What I need is power and reliability. price is less important (but still I'd rather not spend a fortune). I would also appreciate redundancy, so that I can exchange batteries and otehr parts and never have to stop vaping as I am forced to do now with about 10 different batteries, 3 chargers, a box full of attys and nothing works for more than a puff.

Thank you for your help

I am so sorry to hear about your series of frustrations with vaping hardware! Although I (and most vapers) have had equipment fail occasionally, it has been not nearly as often as your experience. [All batteries fail eventually, but (on average) not after such short periods of time.]

My own Riva and eGo-T batteries (not used with the eGo-T tanks, but with cartomizers) have done very well by me. But maybe you should give mods a try at this point – not that mods are a last resort; for many vapers the are the first resort (at least after their initial tiny e-cig purchase). Among their other virtues, mods will deliver (at least) a true 3.7V vaping experience, unlike the eGo's 3.2V.

Others here may recommend some of the more expensive mods, which (with one exception) I have not used. The one exception is the ProVape-1. It is wonderful, very solidly built ... and quite heavy. It takes 900 mAh 14500 batteries (I recommend the more expensive AW IMR batteries). Full kit for $130 (including two regular but very good batteries).

However, what I recommend is a much less expensive mod initially to see if you like the mod experience. Assuming (for the moment) that you would prefer a tubular shape not too much larger than what you are used to, I suggest that you check out the e-Power (1050 mAh 14650 version) or the virtually identical NoEgo shown here (flanked by the much larger, black 2200 mAh 18650 version and a 650 mAh eGo).

Although there is a cosmetic difference between the two, the primary difference is that the NoEgo is sold for $25 without batteries, charger, or atomizers. The e-Power is a full kit, e.g., $46 from SmokTek or $50 from MadVapes (which also carries it with a brushed steel look).

Since I already had the batteries and charger (and use it with cartomizers), I bought the NoEgo, which I think is prettier. The e-Power probably makes more sense for a first-time mod user ... although you can pick up a pair of 14650 batteries and a multi-function two-battery charger from other suppliers, e.g., MadVapes for $23 total.

I hope you reach the point where you start to: Enjoy the adventure!
