VG/PG Ratios

Hi everyone, Just joined, been vaping for about 2 weeks. A 1 1/2+ pack a day smoker, I'm already down to 1/2 pack a day! While I'm not a cloud chaser, I do like to see "smoke" when I exhale. I've buying liquid at different shops, now I'm ready to do a custom blend, but I've NO idea what Veg to Propyl ratio to order. I'm using an I-Stick, averaging around 8 watts at 6 volts, with a Kangertech Aerotank Mega tank.(adjustable flow)
Any advice on ratios?

I would be a little careful with high VG juice in your Aerotank. I have heard that some tanks will burn out wicks more quickly with VG heavy juice. Also consider using "primer" pulls to extend the life of your wicks or coils whatever you would like to call them. I use a Kanger Subtank and closing off the airflow not firing my mod while taking short pulls helps extend the life of my coils.

There is a lot of "it depends" and you need to figure out what you like. And when you change gear what you may find tolerable and likable for PG and throat hit in an Aerotank you may find overkill and too harsh in a dripping atty. And stuff like that.

The most general rule is: The more VG the more vapor - at the expense of throat hit and possibly dulled down flavor. The more PG the more throat hit and possibly "crisper" flavor - at the expense of vapor production. So you slide the mix toward more VG if you want more vapor and less throat hit, go in the other direction of more PG to get the throat hit up.

Agree with everyone's recommendation that when you start and aren't sure, split the difference and try one or two 50/50 mixes and then adjust accordingly on your next purchases.

When I bought juice, I'd get 50/50. I DIY now, and up until recently, I was probably closer to 60p/40v. I've changed my unflavored base and should land more like 50/50 or 30p/70v, depending on whether I use 25p/75v or 100%VG as my unflavored base. 60p/40v to 40p/60v I honestly can't tell a lot of difference. I have a couple of RDAs and Kanger SubTanks, so I want higher VG for richer vapor volume.

I use a lot of Kanger PT2s for "every day vaping". I am noticing (because I now have to vape outside while at work) that the higher VG doesn't wick as well in these colder temps, and I'm getting some burnt hits.

I usually recommend starting at 50-50. I started at 70pg-30vg and I've noticed more flavor and throat hit with those juices. I've also got some that swing the opposite way with 70vg and it's nice as well. But 50-50 is what I order when given a choice. It's got the best balance of everything, smooth, flavorful, nice clouds, and easier on coils than thicker juice and doesn't flood nearly as often as thinner juice. I'm using either a protank2 single coil or a dual emow mega, both with airflow, on an mvp2.0. Usually around 3.5-4.0V depending on the juice.

More VG = more vapor, more PG = more throat hit and flavor.

This isn't part of your question, but I thought I'd throw this out there. It's highly unlikely that you're running 6 volts and vaping at 8 watts also. That would require the coil in your Aerotank is 4.5 ohm, and most seem to be under 2 ohms that I see online. Please understand, your iStick can be operated in variable wattage OR variable voltage mode, not both at the same time. If you have it in variable voltage mode, where you adjust the voltage, wattage will be determined by the voltage you select and the atomizer resistance. When in variable wattage mode, where you adjust the wattage, the correct output voltage is calculated by the electronics based on what wattage you set and the atomizer resistance.
