There is something psychologically connected to exhaling a plume to keep me off the analogs.

^^ This!! I don't know why, but that's how it works for me too.:)

Typically I prefer 60VG/40PG or higher VG if available. High PG gives me headaches. Strangely enough, some brands I can vape at 50/50 while others irritate my throat at 50/50. Not sure if its because of the type of PG or Nic used

I avoid anything with more than about 20%PG, unless I'm just taking a couple of puffs to sample the flavor, because I'm PG sensitive. If I vape over 20%PG for more than a couple of minutes, my throat hurts, I feel sick, I get a headache, etc.

Higher VG will give a lighter throat hit, but more vapor. Higher PG will give a stronger throat hit, but less vapor. Some people say high VG mutes flavors a lot, but I've never noticed a difference.

If you have no sensitivities, you can experiment to figure out which ratio you like best. For vendors who don't allow you to customize, 50/50 is common, but so is 70PG/30VG, and 80PG/20VG. Some vendors have fewer ratios because of their specific recipes (for example, a vendor might not do anything under 20%PG because of the flavors they use being suspended in PG, which takes up a good portion of the recipe). Also, not all vendors that allow 100%VG are actually 100%VG. Many of those also use PG flavorings, which can cause those with a PG allergy to react. Most people who just prefer VG have no problems, though.

Many new vapers prefer more throat hit to simulate analogs and the taste buds haven't awakened yet anyway so many of the nuances of complex flavors are lost. So a higher PG ratio can ease the transition greatly. Unless there is a PG intolerance for someone new to vaping (rare, but sometimes happens) higher PG can help with kicking the old habit. A lot depends on the level of smoking the new vaper is coming from of course. As the new vaper gets farther away from smoking and taste buds come out of hibernation, many prefer more flavor of higher VG e-liquids as they start to focus on the pleasure of the e-liquid they are now vaping and can taste. This is a great step in most vapers journey when they are now focused on the fantastic flavors they can enjoy now instead of tasting and smelling like an ashtray. I mean, how many that have quit smoking for at least a week can still say cigarettes have a wonderful flavor? I get the nicotine fix totally, but flavor of analogs compared to vaping... not so much. I wouldn't say most progress to 100%VG, but a typical 50/50 or more VG is very common. 2 months in on my journey I typically like 60 to 70VG and I can really start to taste the different components in the juice, like my favorite Bannana Vanilla. If I use more PG the flavors start to mute and I'm all about the flavor now and don't really feel a need for more throat hit. If I do feel like a bit of throat hit though I reach for the 70VG Apple Jax with cinnamon. That will give a very nice flavorful TH.

Of course there are no hard fast rules for this, everyone is different in what they like, but this is a very normal progression for many. I will say that starting out higher PG can really help kick the old habit though and will more closely mimic smoking analogs.

75vg/25pg I love more vapor but can't let the juice get too thick or I have trouble with it. So 75/25 works well for me. I do tend to need to add more flavor to my mix with higher VG.

Always remember too drink lots of water when you vape, it does dehydrate you. Many folks don't realize this when they start vaping but it's important to stay hydrated.

80PG/20VG is very common....good throat hit cuz of the 80PG..and good vapor and flavor cuz of the 20VG

higher PG = better throat hit

higher VG = more vapor and flavor..

Not quite right, PG carries the flavor, not the VG. I'm a 50/50 man myself, might change down the road. I had to start at 100%VG cuz the PG made me cough, I mean hack... to the point of nearly spewing up a lung. That lasted about 2 weeks, then went with a more conventional mix, now I like a 50/50 mix for more vapor.
