I need to brag. My mom has been a smoker for as long as I can remember. She quit for a good many years, then went back. We've been trying to get her to stop because her doctor is starting to come forward with some of the ill effects from smoking, like arterial clogs and what have you. This has still not done the job.

When I discovered the e-cigs, I tried them out to see if they'd keep me off the cigarettes myself. When they did, I showed it to mom. She tried mine, found it easy, and liked that she was still able to get nicotine. Now that she has told my father she quit months ago, she's also hiding her smoking habit (even though I keep telling her she isn't kidding anyone because the smell wafts out of the bathroom and into the living room).

Well, about two months ago she got an eGo-c kit. We even had them set her up with the entire kit in purple, her favorite color. I figured we have the same genes... the cost alone to start up will make her switch. Not. Her excuse... the liquid just doesn't taste like her cigarettes, Salem Lights. She won't try any of my juices with fruit or treat tastes, won't try the cigar flavors, and won't try the alcohol flavors. She only wants the taste of her Salems. She also says she can't figure out how to refill the tank.

I got her back to where she got that eGo-c so many months ago and forced her to taste everything there that even hinted at mint flavoring. The win goes to Dekang's spearmint. I saw the look on her face, and I tasted it myself. The taste was almost exact. We paid... I got her two bottles of that spearmint... I did a step by step on how to fill it while filling the tank for her at the same time... and she vaped all the way home.

She swears she won't buy anymore cigarettes when she's done this carton. We'll see. But right now I feel a slight victory and wanted to share. Normally I am not the pushy type and leave people as is. But this is my mom. And she's got some health issues directly related to her cigarettes, and she knows it. I have tried everything, including trying to explain that she's shortening the life span of her beloved Bichon Frise. I may have finally gotten even a small victory.

I'm getting a little discouraged. She hasn't switched yet. And she got a notice in the mail the other day that "someone" caught her flipping a cigarette .... out the window, so the next time this was reported, or if a cop catches her, she'll be fined. Now, she claims she didn't do it, and I know my mom... she has two ashtrays in a two seater car and has always been a nut about not dropping butts, so someone who didn't like smokers decided to file a report (because some people are really that stupid and petty). But she got a nice slap that this could get weird. I just hope SOMETHING makes her switch, and soon.

Wow, it never fails to amaze me just how awful some people can be. What a hateful, spiteful thing to do...the person who reported her probably can't stand smokers, and they have probably reported quite a few hoping to get them into trouble out of spite. Doesn't matter that the smoker wasn't doing anything wrong, just matters that they were smoking. In their minds all smokers are the same, and fair game. They lump all smokers into a group, and probably don't have the sense to realize that many smokers are adamant about NOT throwing butts on the ground. Although they wouldn't care regardless, they just want to lash out at the smoker and get them in trouble.

Hope it didn't upset your Mom too badly, and hope she is able to make the switch to vaping soon. The seed is there in her mind, so hopefully it will grow. Dealing with people who dislike smokers can be a pretty big push in the direction of vaping also...I know that I got to the point that I was extremely uncomfortable smoking anywhere outside my own home.

As long as your mom is still vaping then she's headed in the right direction Wolf. It took me 6 weeks to completely switch over to vaping, it just takes some of us some time.

It's really rotten that someone reported her for tossing a .... out, especially if she didn't do it. That's not something I'm even familiar with, but the idea makes me cringe.

I hope she's still vaping. She swears she is, but I haven't seen that thing in a while. :(

As for the reporting... my mom is one of those types who would never dream of throwing anything on the ground. We're very much the same that way, I used to field strip and pocket my butts until I got to a trash can. Some people just can't let others alone.
